Mixed catalyst compositions comprised of a first supported chromium-containing catalyst component and a second supported chromium-containing catalyst component and which additionally have one or more metallic or non-metallic catalytic agents associated therewith are provided. The additional metallic or non-metallic elements associated with the catalyst components can be aluminum, titanium, zirconium, boron, phosphorous or combinations thereof. The pore volume of the silica supports used for the first and second catalyst components differs by at least 0.3 cc/g. The mixed catalyst compositions of the invention are useful for the preparation of polyolefins. They are particularly useful of polymerization of ethylene in particle form polymerizations to produce high density polyethylene blow molding resins having good processability and physical properties. The improved particle form polymerization process and products obtained thereby using the above-described mixed catalyst compositions are also described.

Mixed chromium catalysts and polymerizations utilizing same

The present invention relates to a silica supported magnesium-containing catalytic precursor of reduced SiOH content for reaction with a titanium halide to form a catalyst for the production of a stereospecific alpha olefin polymer characterized in that prior to reacting with titanium halide the magnesium-containing silica is reacted with at least one titanium compound having the formula Ti(R).sub.n X.sub.m or Ti(OR).sub.n X.sub.m where R is aryl, alkyl, alkaryl, or mixtures thereof; X is halogen; n is an integer of 1 to 4, and m is 0 or an integer of 1 to 3 with the provision that the sum of n and m is 4. It also relates to preparing the catalyst from the precursor.

Modified silica based catalyst

A process for making a propylene polymer which comprises polymerizing propylene under propylene polymerization conditions in the presence of a catalyst system which includes a catalyst component comprising (I) the product obtained by (a) treating silica to remove surface hydroxyl groups; (b) contacting said treated silica with (1) a modifying compound selected from the group consisting of silicon halides, boron halides, aluminum halides, alkyl silicon halides and mixtures thereof; and (2) at least one hydrocarbon soluble magnesium-containing compound; (c) contacting the product of step (b) with at least one titanium-containing compound having the structural formula Ti(OR).sub.n X.sub.m, where R is aryl, alkyl or mixtures thereof; X is halogen; n is an integer of 1 to 4; m is 0 or an integer of 1 to 3; and the sum of m and n is 4; and (d) treating the product of step (c) with a titanium-containing compound having the structural formula TiX.sup.1.sub.p (OR.sup.1).sub.q, where X.sup.1 is halogen; R.sup.1 is aryl or alkyl; p is an integer of 1 to 4; q is 0 or an integer of 1 to 3; and the sum of p and q is 4; a second catalyst component (II), an aluminum-containing compound selected from the group consisting of an alkyl aluminum, an alkyl aluminum halide and mixtures thereof; and a third catalyst component (III), a silane compound.

Propylene polymerization using modified silica based catalyst

A solid catalyst component and catalyst system, and method for the homopolymerization of propylene or copolymerization of a major amount of propylene with one or more other 1-olefins are disclosed. The solid catalyst component is used in combination with a complex of an alkyl aluminum cocatalyst compound and an electron donor stereoregulating agent. The solid catalyst component is prepared by reacting a silica-containing support material with a magnesium silylamide compound, an electron donor stereoregulating agent, and a halogenated tetravalent titanium compound.

Propylene polymerization method

A catalyst and method in which the catalyst is used in association with an aluminum cocatalyst in the polymerization and copolymerization of 1-olefins. The catalyst is prepared by reacting certain multifunctional organic silicon compounds (silanes) with silica, alumina or the like having surface hydroxyl groups, or a mixture thereof, in which the silicon compound reacts with these surface hydroxyl groups, followed by reacting the product of this with a halide or alkoxide of a Group IVB or VB transition metal such as titanium, vanadium, zirconium or mixtures of these and finally reacting this product with a Group IIA organometallic compound or compound such as magnesium and calcium. The Group IIA organometallic compound can also be added before these transition metal compounds.

Ethylene is copolymerized or interpolymerized with at least one olefinic comonomer having about 3 to 18 carbon atoms to produce linear low density polyethylene copolymers and terpolymers in a slurry process using liquid propane as the diluent. The copolymer products have desirable physical properties including relatively narrow molecular weight distributions and low elasticities.

Copolymerization of ethylene

A catalyst and method in which the catalyst is used with an aluminum cocatalyst in the polymerization and copolymerization of 1-olefins and is prepared by reacting a monofunctional organic silicon compound with silica, alumina, or the like followed by reacting the product of this reaction with a Group IIA organometallic compound or complex, then reacting this product with a halide or alkoxide of a metal of Group IVB or Group VB or mixtures thereof. If desired, the halide or alkoxide may be first reacted with the silicon compound reaction product before the reacting with the organometallic compound or complex.

A catalyst and method in which the catalyst is active with a cocatalyst in the polymerization and copolymerization of 1-olefins and is prepared by reacting together one or more of a specific class of organic silicon compounds, a porous support or a silicon compound treated porous support, a Group IIA organometallic compound, and a Group IVB, VB transition metal compound or mixture thereof.
