The tricyclic ketones of our invention further augment, enhance or impart sweet, floral, woody, spicy, leathery and amber aroma nuances to smoking tobacco prior to smoking and sweet aromas with natural tobacco taste and aroma nuances on smoking in the main stream and in the side stream.

Described is a process for augmenting or enhancing the aroma of a solid or liquid anionic, cationic or nonionic detergent comprising the step of adding in an aroma augmenting or enhancing quantity to a solid or liquid anionic, cationic or nonionic detergent base at least one tricyclic ketone having the structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are the same or different and each represents hydrogen or C.sub.1 --C.sub.3 lower alkyl.
