A method for making a component comprising a high entropy alloy (HEA) includes combining a reaction component with a powdered HEA precursor, igniting the combination of the reaction component and the powdered HEA precursor to induce a self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) reaction and to form a solid HEA feedstock, converting the solid HEA feedstock into a powder HEA feedstock, and additively manufacturing at least a portion of the powder feedstock into a HEA component or HEA preformed shape approximating a desired shape of the component.

Method for forming viable high entropy alloys via additive manufacturing

An instrumented vane body is provided that includes a suction side and pressure side outer walls, an interior cavity, at least one supply conduit, a plurality of sensors, and a plurality of sensor ports. The suction and pressure side outer walls extend chordwise between leading and trailing edges and between inner and outer radial ends. The supply conduit is in fluid communication with the interior cavity, and is in communication with the interior cavity through at least one of the inner or outer radial ends. The sensor ports are disposed in the leading edge and each is configured to receive a sensor, and are spaced apart from one another. Each sensor port is in fluid communication with at least one vent aperture, and each is configured to permit core gas to enter that sensor part and exit the vane body through the at least one vent aperture.

A gas turbine engine article includes a silicon-containing ceramic wall that has an external combustion gaspath side and an internal side that borders a cooling air cavity. The external combustion gaspath side has an associated combustion gas flow direction there along. An array of cooling holes extends through the silicon-containing ceramic wall and connects the internal side with the external combustion gaspath side. The cooling holes are oriented to discharge cooling air to the external gaspath side in a direction counter to the combustion gas flow direction.

A collar is provided that can be used to either drive posts into the ground or remove posts from the ground. The collar includes a first portion defining a post opening adapted for coupling about a post, and a second portion coupled to the first portion. The second portion includes a receiver adapted for receiving a tool for use in driving the post into the ground when the first portion is coupled about the post. The first portion defines an obtuse angle with respect to the second portion. The collar is configured to be positioned in a first orientation about a post when used to drive the post into the ground, and a second orientation, rotated approximately 180 degrees relative to the first orientation, when used to remove a post from the ground.

A method may comprise: placing a probe in a molten metal melt comprising a thixotropic metal alloy; injecting a gas into the molten metal melt to form a saturated slurry, the saturated slurry being at a temperature above a liquidus temperature of the thixotropic metal alloy after injecting the gas; removing the probe from the molten metal melt; and depositing the molten metal melt through an extruder of an additive manufacturing system.

An airfoil includes an airfoil section that has an airfoil wall that surrounds a cavity. The airfoil wall includes an exterior monolithic ceramic shell and an interior CMC liner that has CMC plies. An outermost ply of the CMC plies forms tabs that are raised from an underlying ply so as to define a slot. The exterior monolithic ceramic shell includes an underlapping shell piece and an overlapping shell piece. The underlapping shell piece has a portion disposed in the slot and bonded with the tabs. The overlapping shell piece extends over the tabs and is bonded to the tabs. There are channels bounded by adjacent ones of the tabs, the underlapping shell piece, and the overlapping shell piece. Channel orifices through the CMC liner connect the cavity and the channels.

An airfoil includes an airfoil body that has a trailing edge region. The trailing edge region includes first and second monolithic ceramic exterior walls, a flow discharge passage between the first and second monolithic ceramic exterior walls, a ceramic matrix composite (CMC) liner at least a portion of which is disposed in the flow discharge passage between the first and second monolithic ceramic exterior walls, and an array of pedestals disposed in the flow discharge passage. Each of the flow guides bridges the CMC liner and at least one of the first and second monolithic ceramic exterior walls.

A method is provided for using a collar to either drive a post into the ground or remove a post from the ground. The method includes, when driving a post into the ground, coupling the collar to the post in a first orientation so that a post opening of a first portion of the collar extends about the post, and applying a driving force to a second portion of the collar. The method also includes, when removing a post from the ground, coupling the collar to the post in a second orientation, rotated approximately 180 degrees from the first orientation, so that the post opening of the first portion of the collar extends about the post, and applying an extracting force to the second portion of the collar.

An airfoil includes an airfoil section that has an airfoil wall that surrounds a cavity. The airfoil wall includes a first wall section comprised of a monolithic ceramic shell, a second wall section comprised of a CMC liner that is bonded along an interface to an interior side of the monolithic ceramic shell, and a ceramic barrier coating that is bonded to an exterior side of the monolithic ceramic shell. The airfoil wall includes at least one of: inter-section cooling channels that extend along the interface and are bounded by the monolithic ceramic shell and the CMC liner, or intra-section cooling channels that extend within the CMC liner.

A method for thermally-sensitive coating analysis of a component includes imaging the coated, exposed component over a range of distinct frequencies as selected by a narrowband variable filter; estimating parameters of non-uniformity correction (NUC) for every pixel at every wavelength; constructing a 2D temperature map on a pixel-by-pixel basis using the non-uniformity correction; and mapping the 2D temperature map to a 3D computer aided design (CAD) model.

A method for nondestructive multispectral vibrothermography inspection of a component, includes generating ultrasonic excitations in a component over a broad range of frequencies; determining a spectral signature in the component from the excitations; comparing the spectral energy signature against databaseof correlations between vibrational frequencies of a multiple of components and the spectral energy distribution thereof, and classifying the component based on the database data.

A method of forming a film cooling hole in a component having an internal surface and an external surface is disclosed herein that includes forming the component with a first feature on the external surface, measuring a geometry of the external surface to determine a first placement of the first feature, and drilling the film cooling hole through the component at the first placement.

A feedstock for a cold spray process includes a plurality of globule bodies. The globule bodies include a plurality of discrete particles bonded to one another to define porous globule bodies.
