A cleaning and lubricating system is provided. The system includes an applicator comprised of a substrate carrying an excess of cleaning and lubricating compositions, and a buffing member, preferably in combination with the applicator. In operation, the applicator is wiped against a to-be-cleaned and lubricated surface of an article. This action coats the article with an excess thickness of lubricating composition. The coating is then wiped with the buffing member and the excess lubricating composition is transferred to the buffing member so that the coating on the article is now of a controlled thickness. When an excess supply of lubricating composition builds up on the buffing member portion of the system, the buffing member may then be used as a cleaning and lubricating applicator.

System for cleaning and lubricating sound recording surfaces

Compositions including fluorinated alkyl esters are provided. Such compositions are useful for cleaning and lowering the coefficient of friction of the surfaces of various articles. In certain preferred embodiments tetrafluorethylene telomers and/or antistatic materials are included in the compositions.

Cleaning and lubricating compositions and method of using the same

A magnetic record, such as a magnetic disc, has a smooth continuous layer of solid lubricant mixed with liquid lubricant. The lubricating layer is applied by spraying the magnetic record with a carrier in which the solid and liquid lubricants are dissolved. In the preferred embodiment, tetrafluoroethylene telomer, a solid lubricant, is applied to a magnetic disc and then buffed. Perfluoroalkylpolyether, a liquid lubricant, is then applied and buffed. The lubricants are dissolved in a carrier of trichlorotrifluoroethane.

Leader strip for motion picture films is described which is composed of a substrate of cellulose acetate or polyester, a gum-removing layer comprising an organic binder selected from the group consisting of cellulose esters, polyurethanes, polyacrylonitrile, copolymers of acrylonitrile and vinylidene chloride, and epoxy resins, a gum-shearing agent of finely divided polymeric particles, said agent being bonded by the organic binder to the substrate, said gum-shearing agent being a member selected from the group consisting of polyesters, polyamides, polyimides and polyolefins, said polymeric particles having a size less than about five mils.
