A UV radiation curable primer coating composition curable under a UV radiation emitting lamp or sunlight. The coating demonstrates improved curing time and includes ethylenically unsaturated free radically polymerizable compounds and 0.1% photoinitiator or less.

Coating composition curable with ultraviolet radiation

A clearcoat curable by ultraviolet radiation including at least one of A) acrylate or methacrylate monomers or mixtures thereof having from one to six free-radically polymerizable groups per molecule or B) compounds containing two or more ethylenically unsaturated, free radically polymerizable groups per molecule and mixtures thereof or mixtures of A) and B). The coating may optionally include photoinitiators, volatile organic solvent(s) and customary additives. The invention further provides a process for applying the clearcoat to a substrate. In a preferred embodiment the process according to the present invention includes low energy curing of a clearcoat applied to a substrate by means of a UV light source utilizing UVA/UVV or UVA only and involves essentially no UVB or UVC radiation.

A polyurethane coating is prepared on a substrate using a multi-component coating composition having a first component containing a polyisocyanate material, a second component containing a polymeric polyol, and a third component containing a compound having at least two hindered secondary amine groups by first determining the temperature at curing of the coating will take place and then combining the first and second components and, when the cure temperature is less than about 20&deg; C., particularly less than about 10&deg; C., also combining the third component to prepare a combined coating composition; then applying the combined coating composition to the substrate and curing the applied coating layer.

Method and system for low temperature cure of automotive refinish coatings

The present invention relates to a coating composition and a pigment dispersant comprising aldimine having the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is alkyl, aryl, cycloaliphatic or substituted alkyl, aryl, cycloaliphatic or heterocyclic group, and R.sub.2 is monomeric or polymeric aliphatic, aromatic, arylaliphatic or cycloaliphatic group which may contain O, N, S, or Si.

Aldimine based coating compositions and pigment dispersions

A coating composition based on amines, aldimines and isocyanates which forms a polyurea coating or film. These coating compositions are especially useful in the automotive refinish industry due to the cure rate at ambient conditions. The coatings of these compositions can be useful for obtaining low VOC (Volatile Organic Content) levels.
