The exemplary embodiments of the invention provide at least a method and an apparatus to determine a beacon signal for a network node, where the network node is configured to connect with a cluster of access points in a wireless communication network, and where the beacon signal identifies the cluster; and send the beacon signal towards the wireless communication network. Further, the exemplary embodiments of the invention provide at least a method and an apparatus to determine a dominant access point of a cluster of access points based on signaling from at least one access point associated with the cluster of access points; and in response to the determining, direct communications towards the dominant access point of the cluster of access points.

Systems, methods, apparatuses, and computer program products for an interleaved multi-beam acquisition waveform providing concurrent beam selection, automatic gain control (AGC) and automatic frequency correction (AFC) are provided. The access point (AP) may send an acquisition waveform on multiple beams, then return and retransmit an AFC on the multiple beams thus interleaving beam switching with the acquisition and frequency correction waveforms. AGC correction can be deferred until the end, relying on the fact that the transmitter may be detected at close range using a one of the multi-beams that is attenuated.

A method, a system and a device for implementing a scalable, self-calibrating and configuring, radio frequency head in a wireless base station that performs phase calibration for coherent combining of a pair of transmitter outputs. Configurable Antenna Calibration (CAC) logic initiates phase calibration for coherent combining by selecting a first configuration and triggering the transmission of a reference signal by radio frequency (RF) transmitters using different sub-carriers. The CAC logic generates a vector of phase values by comparing the reference signal with the respective signals received by a calibration receiver. The CAC logic also generates calibration coefficients for coherent combining by normalizing the phase values. In addition, a passive combiner mechanism is employed to implement coherent combining. The CAC logic performs calibration of smart antennas by providing calibration coefficients via a second configuration which utilizes both a calibration transmitter and the calibration receiver.

Scalable self-calibrating and configuring radio frequency head for a wireless communication system

A communication device is provided that is capable of operating in an OFDM or communication system and that provides for cancellation of in-band spurs. The communication device identifies a bin of multiple bins associated with an output of an inverse transformer and comprising a spur and estimates one or more spur phase parameters and a spur amplitude in association with the identified bin. In one embodiment of the present invention, the one or more spur phase parameters includes a spur initial phase and a spur change rate. When the communication device receives a signal from another communication device, the communication device transforms the received signal to produce a multiple parallel output signals that are each associated with a bin of the multiple bins and cancels a spur in an output signal associated with the identified bin based on the estimated one or more spur phase parameters and spur amplitude.
