A compressed hollow coreless roll of absorbent paper sheet produced by way of providing a roll of absorbent paper sheet by winding the sheet about a forming core member having a diameter in the range of 30 mm to 50 mm; removing the forming core member such that there is provided a hollow coreless roll of absorbent paper sheet with an axial cavity having a diameter in the range of 30 mm to 50 mm and compressing the hollow coreless roll such that the axial cavity is substantially collapsed. The compressed hollow coreless rolls are readily re-formed into cylindrical shape. Space-saving packages of the rolls are overwrapped with tubular polymer film to provide a flexible reconfigurable package of a series of individually encased rolls. Volume reductions of about 10 to about 20%, about 14% to about 20%, 30%, 40% and more as compared with conventional products are realized.

Partitionable paper towel

Described herein are methods and systems for reducing the tail on a parent roll. The system may comprise a web tail extending from a parent roll supported by an unwind stand. The system may further comprise one or more nozzles positioned below the web tail and configured to facilitate the rewinding of the web tail about the parent roll. The web tail may be rewound about the parent roll in a direction opposite to that which the web was initially wound about the parent roll. As a result, the length of the web tail extending from the parent roll may be reduced and is less likely to lengthen as the parent roll is ejected from the unwind stand.

Systems and methods for parent roll tail reduction

A glue applicator for a web winding apparatus applies a longitudinal stripe of glue to an elongated core. The stripe of glue may be applied by an elongated wire or bar, by a rotating roller, or by a sprayer. The glued core is moved by a core inserter into position for insertion into the winding apparatus so that the stripe of glue is upstream of the web and in position to contact the web at the start of a new winding cycle. A web pinch pad on the core inserter contacts the web and severs the web at the start of the winding cycle.

Apparatus for applying glue to cores

A glue applicator for a web winding apparatus applies a longitudinals strip of glue to an elongated core. The stripe of glue may be applied by an elongated wire or bar, by a rotation roller, or by a sprayer. The glued core is moved by a core inserter into position for insertion into the winding apparatus so that the stripe of glue is upstream of the web and in position to contact the web at the start of a new winding cycle. A web pinch pad on the core inserter contacts the web and servers the web at the start of the winding cycle.

Apparatus and method for applying glue to cores

A core infeed apparatus for a surface winder moves an elongated core axially into the winder while an axial line of glue is applied to the core. The core is moved into a space between a pair of rotatable core guides. One of the core guides is rotatable away from the core while the other core guide rotates the core toward a core inserter. The core is transferred to the core inserter, and the core inserter rotates to move the core toward the winding rolls of the rewinder. The position of the glue line is accurately maintained as the core moves to its various positions.

Core infeed apparatus for winder

A surface winder includes first and second winding rolls for winding a web on a center member, a stationary surface spaced from the first winding roll for rolling a center member on the stationary surface, and a pinch pad for pinching the web against a pinch surface upstream of the center member and thereby severing the web. The first winding roll is provided with a high friction surface, and only a short length of web needs to be stretched between the pinch surface and the first roll to tension and sever the web. The severed web is wound on the center member as the center member rolls on the stationary surface.
