Methods and systems for controlling start-up and stabilization of mode-locked lasers are disclosed. A laser stabilization method may include: receiving a laser beam generated by a mode-locked laser; generating a current based on the laser beam received, wherein the generation of the current generates a radio frequency (RF) waveform; amplifying the RF waveform to a level suitable to be processed by a mixer communicatively coupled with the mode-locked laser; and adjusting a phase of the amplified RF waveform to compensate for effects of environmental changes on the laser beam generated by the mode-locked laser.

Start-up and stabilization of mode-locked lasers

A mode-locked laser has optical components integrated into a single apparatus and interrelated via optical free-space coupling. The laser optical cavity path is reduced to less than ten meters, primarily composed of optical gain fiber. A Fabry-Perot filter is matched to the laser pulse repetition frequency. Utilizing a Fabry-Perot filter within the laser optical cavity suppresses supermode spurs in the phase noise spectrum; thereby reducing total timing jitter.

Environmentally robust and compact mode-locked laser

A photonic processor can include a first input for a phase-modulated optical pulse signal, a second input for an optical reference signal, and a plurality of states. Each stage is configured to receive the phase-modulated optical pulse signal and a phase-delayed version of the optical reference signal. The phase-delayed version is phase-delayed in accordance with a phase position of the stage. Each stage is comprised of a reference path, a signal path, a coupler and a balanced photo detector. The coupler receives the phase-modulated optical pulse signal and provides as stage phase-modulated optical pulse signal to the signal path. The signal path is coupled to a first input of the balanced photo detector. The coupler also receives the phase-delayed version and provides a stage optical reference signal to the reference path. The reference path is coupled to a second input of the detector. The detector provides an electronic output signal corresponding to a phase relationship.

Optical conversion system and method with multiple phase processing

A photonic processor can include a first input for an amplitude-modulated optical pulse signal, a second input for an optical reference signal, and a plurality of stages. Each stage is configured to receive the amplitude-modulated optical pulse signal and a version of the optical reference signal. The version is amplitude attenuated in accordance with a position of the stage. Each stage is comprised of a reference path, a signal path, two couplers and a balanced photo detector. The first coupler receives the pulse signal and provides as stage pulse signal to the signal path coupled to a first input of the detector. The second coupler receives the version and provides a stage optical reference signal to the reference path coupled to a second input of the detector. The detector provides an electronic output signal corresponding to an amplitude relationship.

Apparatuses, systems, and methods are disclosed for providing optical communications. Bragg grating used in the optical components and systems of the present invention are produced by selectively hydrogenating one or more selected sections of an optical waveguide in general, and particularly optical fiber. Selective hydrogenation can be performed by selectively establishing local conditions in a first environment conducive to introducing greater quantities of hydrogen into selected sections than into non-selected sections, which are maintained in a second environment. The extent of selective hydrogenation and the hydrogen concentration difference between selected and non-selected section of the waveguide is a function of the temperature, pressure, and time of exposure established in the first and second environments.

A device for handling a workpiece, such as a container for chemotherapy drugs, comprises a base plate, a vertical post extending from the base plate, a support barrel rotatably connected at one end to a support member which slidably engages with the vertical post, and a shaft that is biased within the support barrel to partially extend through and outwardly beyond the end of the support barrel opposite the support member. The device further comprises a first jaw member extending downwardly through the support barrel and connected to the shaft for relative movement therewith and a second jaw member opposed to the first jaw member and affixed to the end of the support barrel opposite the support member. Preferably, the second jaw member connects to a clamping means which slidably engages with the support barrel intermediate the first jaw member and the end of the support barrel opposite the support member. Each jaw member includes a vertical frame from which a plurality of spaced tine pairs extend. In the preferred embodiment, the jaw members are at least partially covered with a cushioning and gripping material.
