At least one unique collection of storage artifacts can be specified to indicate that the storage artifact is a member of the unique collection. Each storage artifact can be a discrete object comprising digitally encoded content that is stored as a node within a tree structure of a tangible storage medium. The collection can be referenced by a set of different storage artifacts to form a collection of related storage artifacts. Each storage artifact can correspond to different collections, wherein membership within a collection is independent of a storage path within the tree structure. A file management action relating to the storage artifact can be performed. The file management action can be dependent upon the storage artifact being a member of the unique collection.

A method can include evaluating each of a plurality of collaborative systems, using a processor, for suitability hosting an artifact according to at least one attribute of the artifact. A first collaborative system can be selected from the plurality of collaborative systems according to the evaluation. The artifact can be stored in the first collaborative system.

Efficient sharing of artifacts between collaboration applications

An embodiment of the invention includes a method for centralized URL commenting, wherein user-generated comment data is extracted from web pages on a plurality of web sites. Access control parameters are also obtained from the web sites. The comment data is tagged with identifiers indicating the web sites that the comment data was extracted from, URLs indicating the web pages that the comment data are on, and authors of the comment data. The comment data is stored in a repository. Keywords are extracted from the comment data; and, the keywords are normalized. The normalizing of the keywords includes creating a single normalized keyword for multiple keywords related to the same topic, and tagging comment data that include at least one of the multiple keywords with the normalized keyword. Read access and/or write access to the repository is controlled based on the access control parameters.

Centralized URL commenting service enabling metadata aggregation

Disclosed is a service for displaying custom information. The service includes establishing a data connection to at least one data source, storing specific information via the data connection in the data source, and providing a data crawler to crawl said at least one data source using the stored information. The results are pushed from the data crawler to an end user for displaying a combination of the stored information and the at least one data source.

System and method for a tagging service

Web information processing services are provided by scanning at least one data feed for content relevant to a first subject category and associating relevant content found as a result of the scanning with the first subject category. The first subject category is selected by a first web user. A first domain including results of the associating is created, and the first domain is associated with the first web user. The first domain is published as a syndicatable data feed over a network.
