Disclosed is an antitheft, emergency system for a vehicle. The system may include a system activation switch, at least one emergency switch, an engine shutoff element connected to the engine, and an emergency transmitter. The at least one emergency switch may trigger the engine shutoff element to render the engine inoperational and may simultaneously, covertly trigger an emergency transmitter to transmit a distress signal.

Anti-theft, emergency system

A kinesiological mouthpiece includes a strap assembly with a bridge, a pair of extensions extending generally rearwardly and outwardly from the bridge and a pair of wings extending generally rearwardly from the extensions. The strap assembly is flexible for forming in a generally U-shaped use configuration. The wings are displaced at a different level from the bridge whereby the bridge can be positioned generally between the lower teeth and the lower lip with the wings approximately located on bite lines of the back teeth. A pair of bitepad assemblies are rotatably and longitudinally-adjustably mounted on the wings and each includes a bitepad with upper and lower contact surfaces for contacting by the back teeth. An occlusal support method includes the steps of providing a strap assembly, placing the strap assembly around the lower teeth, adjustably and rotatably mounting a pair of bitepad assemblies on the strap assembly, placing the bitepad assemblies between the back teeth and relieving tension on the temporomandibular joint.

Kinesiologic mouthpiece and method

A powered coping and profile cutting and/or sanding apparatus is able to impart any shape to the surface of a body of material (17) at any angle, simple or compound, relative to the body of material. The apparatus comprises a reciprocating 'frame'(36) encasing thin stacking metal sheets (42) which are adjustable in a forward/backward direction for allowing multiple shape setups. The sheets (42), which are oriented vertically, have saw teeth at their top sections (42a) and no teeth at their bottom sections (42b). Adhesive-backed sandpaper (78) is affixed to the bottom section (42b) after the shape is set. This allows a cutting phase and a sanding phase with the same profile. The entire reciprocating frame (36) pivots multidirectionally within two planes, and may be locked at any angle. The reciprocating frame (36) is movable in a forward/backward direction. The body of material (17) being cut is immovably clamped, and the frame (36) is moved into the body of material (17) for the cutting and/or sanding operation.

Oncostatin M for treating inflammation

The present invention relates to methods of using oncostatin M (OM). In particular, it relates to the use of OM to stimulate interleukin 6 (IL-6) synthesis in target cells, especially human endothelial cells. The resultant IL-6, in turn, may perform a variety of functions such as cell growth regulation, leukocyte differentiation, and tumor inhibition. Furthermore, the present invention also relates to the use of OM to treat cytopenias, including anemia and thrombocytopoiesis, and to increase tolerance to irradiation and cytotoxic drugs. Therefore, the methods of the invention may have a wide range of applications, including, but not limited to, the inhibition of tumor growth, the treatment of cytopenias, and to increase the tolerance to radio- and chemotherapy. OM may be used in combination with various cytokines, including erythropoietin, colony-stimulating factors, interleukin-3 or thrombopoietin.

Method for regulating cell growth, leukocyte differentiation and tumor

A method for decreasing metalloproteinase activity in a patient that comprises the step of administering to said patient a therapeutic composition comprising the cytokine oncostatin-M, or a biologically active fragment, mutant, analog or fusion construct thereof. Also, a method for increasing TIMP activity in a patient that comprises the step of administering to said patient a therapeutic composition comprising the cytokine oncostatin-M, or a biologically active fragment, mutant, analog or fusion construct thereof. In addition a method for inhibiting or treating progression of a tumor in a patient that comprises the step of administering to said patient a therapeutic composition comprising oncostatin-M, or a biologically active fragment, mutant, analog, or fusion construct thereof, said method being effective to inhibit invasion by a tumor cell through an extracellular space, extracellular matrix, basement membrane, interstitial tissue or connective tissue. Also methods effective to treat inflammatory or degenerative disease, methods effective to stimulate erythropoiesis, and methods effective to regulate tissue remodeling and to promote healing of injury.

Novel compositions comprising Oncostatin M and congeners thereof, as well as methods for their preparation and methods for their use are provided. The compositions may be prepared by isolation from natural sources, or by recombinant means in either prokaryotic or eukaryotic host cells. In addition, the DNA and polypeptide sequences for Oncostatin M are disclosed. The compositions find use in modulating growth of cells, in particular inhibition of tumor cell proliferation, and stimulation of normal cell growth, especially cells involved in hematopoiesis. Cell growth inhibition compositions may additionally include an adjunctive agent comprising at least one of a transforming growth factor, tumor necrosis factor, or an interferon. Receptors having high affinity for Oncostatin M may additionally be used to screen polypeptides for Oncostatin M-like activity. Methods for use of antibodies to the compositions and probes specific for Oncostatin M mRNA as a means for detecting tumor cells are also provided.

Oncostatin M and novel compositions having anti-neoplastic activity

An apparatus for use with a gas grill cart which comprises a cutting board and a drawer for preparation of food and storage of grilling accessories. The apparatus is adapted for use with grill carts having a base and a four-posted vertically extending structure having arms extending perpendicularly from each post. The invention is adapted to be placed between two of the arms previously having wooden slots extending therebetween and is comprised of a cutting board which has a length greater than the length of the space between the arms of the cart. The cutting board has guides attached to the underside thereof for engagement with a drawer which is similarly held on the cart via the engagement of the cutting board with the arms. The drawer has a locking device thereon for engagement with a cutout in one of the guides attached to the cutting board. As such, the drawer cannot be fully removed from the slots of the guides and, therefore, accidental spillage of the drawer and its contents is prevented. The cutting board can be permanently attached to the arms of the cart via screws or the like used to previously attach the slats. The cutting board can be used to cut and otherwise prepare food to be grilled and the drawer can be used to store grilling accessories such as brushes and spatulas.

Type III TGF-.beta. receptor is identified in and purified from normal human embryonic palatal mesenchyme (HEPM) cells and the purified product characterized structurally and functionally. HEPM cells were found to express high levels of the type III TGF-.beta. receptor and were found to significantly down-regulate two classes of TGF-.beta. receptor binding site. Purification of the type III TGF-.beta. receptor from solubilized HEPM cell membranes by affinity chromatography yielded a biologically active protein of about 205 kd which specifically binds both the recombinant and natural forms of TGF-.beta.1 and TGF-.beta.2, with affinity dissociation constants in the picomolar range.

The present invention is directed to the use of a recently discovered cytokine, Oncostatin M, to control endothelial cell immunogenicity, fibrinolytic activity and proliferation, and to its use in the treatment of a variety of human vascular and immune system disorders involving the vascular endothelium. The method of the invention includes the use of mature, hybrid, modified or truncated forms of Oncostatin M as well as Oncostatin M analogs. The invention is described by way of examples in which the efficacy of such compounds is evaluated using various in vitro assay systems.

Novel compositions are provided for modulating growth, particularly of tumor cells, which compositions are combinations of Oncostatin M, and one or both of transforming growth factors or .gamma.-interferons, or analogs thereof. In addition, a novel transforming growth factor is provided, designated TGF-.beta.2, as well as methods for its preparation.
