The specification and drawings present a new apparatus such as a lighting apparatus, the apparatus comprising at least one LED (or OLED) module, configured to generate a visible light such as white light, and at least one component such as optical component comprising a compound consisting essentially of the elements neodymium (Nd) and fluorine (F), and optionally including one or more other elements. The lighting apparatus is configured to provide a desired light spectrum by filtering the generated visible light using the compound. The at least one component can comprise a NdFOcompound with values of x and y determining a content ratio F/O, which may be adjusted during manufacturing of the NdFOcompound to provide desired output light parameters of the apparatus including at least a desired output light spectrum realized by filtering the generated visible light using the NdFOcompound.

A lighting apparatus includes at least one light source generating a visible light and an optical component, the optical component includes a transparent, translucent or reflective substrate and a coating on a surface of the substrate to cause a color filtering effect to the visible light passing through the optical component, the coating includes a compound containing Nd3+ ions and F&#x2033; ions.

A simplified mid-motor drive system includes all necessary electronics and allows for throttle-only operation of the motor. The mid-motor drive system includes an arrangement of uni-directional drive connections (i.e., sprag clutches) between the motor and the pedals which allows each to operate independently or in conjunction, and allows simple modifications to gear ratios of packaged drive systems in order to adapt to regulatory requirements of different worldwide territories.

In an embodiment, the disclosure provides a light source comprising at least one solid state light emitter. The light source, in operation, emits substantially white light having a Lighting Preference Index (LPI) of at least about 105, and this emission from the light source comprises a UV-violet flux of at least about 1%. Use of the lamps, light sources, and methods of the present disclosure may afford the ability to display linens and clothing under energy-efficient LED-based illumination, and may impart an effect to (especially white) clothing, that makes them look cleaner than under illumination by prior art LED lamps.

Apparatus and method for controlling an electric motor providing assistance to a bicycle rider based on measuring the mechanical power generated by the rider. The power generated by the rider is measured by measuring tension in a bicycle chain (or belt) and RPM. A chain (or belt) roller is carried at the free end of a cantilevered beam and the chain (or belt) rides over the roller. The resulting deflection of the cantilevered beam provides a measurement of chain tension. A control signal for the electric motor is generated based on a smoother version of the power generated by the rider.

A method of green joining ceramic components is disclosed, particularly for use in forming a discharge body for a ceramic metal halide lamp. The process includes providing a first green ceramic component having a male joining surface, and providing a second green ceramic component having a female joining surface dimensioned to matingly receive the first component. The first and second green ceramic components are assembled along the joining surfaces, the assembled components are uniformly heated to join the first and second components. The joined components are next cooled in a cooling bath that uniformly cools the joined components. Thereafter, the joined green part may be inserted in the furnace for debindering and sintering.

A test system for proportioning fire fighting and fire suppression systems is provided. This test system includes a foam-water proportioning system and at least one test apparatus connectable to or incorporated into the foam-water sprinkler system. In an exemplary embodiment, the foam-water proportioning system further includes: (i) at least one proportioning valve; (ii) at least one source of water; and (iii) at least one source of foam concentrate. The test apparatus further includes: (i) a means for bypassing the at least one source of foam concentrate; (ii) a first flow meter; and (iii) an optional second flow meter.
