A two-speed focusing mechanism includes a base having an inner guide, a carrier disposed within the inner guide, a first drive, an outer guide and a second drive. A first and second bearing are disposed in a respective inner dimple of the carrier and a second bearing is disposed within a first dimple of the first drive. The first and second bearings are held within a respective inner slot and outer slot and a first guide and second guide, wherein a rotation of the second drive is translated into an axial movement of the carrier at different speeds.

The invention provides an endoscopic video camera having a polymeric knob assembly, wherein the polymeric material used for manufacturing the knob assembly includes polyphenylsulfone resin, titanium dioxide, tin oxide, and colored metallic additives, is capable of withstanding sterilization, and has a metallic cosmetic appearance. The invention also provides methods of manufacturing the knob assembly by plastic injection molding processes, wherein undesirable molding characteristics are concentrated on portions of the knob assembly that are removed by secondary machining or post machining.

The invention relates to a magnetic drive focusing device with at least one lens within a chamber and an adjuster with magnets outside the chamber. Positioned between the lens and the chamber is a second sleeve with helical guide paths. As the adjuster is moved outside the chamber, the magnetic field within the chamber causes the lens within the chamber to move. As the lens rotates, non-magnetic guides which ride in the helical guide paths force the lens to move axially within the device.

An imaging system for producing a stereoscopic image of an object is provided. The imaging system includes a camera for receiving an image of the object, a single-axis optical system disposed between the object and the camera, and an image blocking element disposed between the object and the camera. The image blocking element is activatable to alternately produce a left image and a right image, and is adjustable in a direction perpendicular to the optical axis of the optical system such that the image blocking element is capable of being centered on the aperture (i.e., the entrance pupil, exit pupil, or aperture stop) of the optical system.
