A radar device for transmitting a signal in a frequency range with a control system and an oscillator. An input of the oscillator is connected to the control system via a converter. The oscillator can be activated by the control system to generate the signal and the signal generated by the oscillator can be tapped at an output of the oscillator, with at least one transmission antenna for transmitting the signal at the output of the oscillator. The transmission antenna is connected to the output of the oscillator, with at least one receive channel for receiving a receive signal, for processing the receive signal and for forwarding the processed receive signal to the control system. The receive channel features at least one receive antenna and a mixer for mixing the receive signal with the signal at the output of the oscillator. The mixer is connected to the output of the oscillator. A frequency divider is provided that feeds signals from the oscillator to a frequency counter. At a minimum, the oscillator and the frequency divider are designed as a monolithic microwave integrated circuit.

A method for determining the functionality of a switchable reception amplifier of a radar system with a transmitting unit, a receiving unit and a voltage-controlled oscillator, wherein, before the radar system is started up, calibration is carried out in order to compensate for a frequency deviation of the frequency emitted by the oscillator. The invention provides for at least one calibration cycle to be run with at least one first signal at a first frequency and one second signal at a second frequency during calibration of the oscillator, wherein the first signal and the second signal are transmitted by the transmitting unit and are received by the receiving unit, wherein the reception amplifier is switched with a switching sequence, which results in amplitude modulation of the first and second signals, and the amplitude modulation is used to determine the functionality of the reception amplifier.

Method of determining the operability of a switchable reception amplifier

A radar device for the transmission of a signal in a frequency band. The radar device includes a control means and an oscillator. The input of the oscillator is connected to the control means by means of a converter. The oscillator is controllable by means of the control means for the generation of the signal. The signal is generated by means of the oscillator and can be picked up on an output of the oscillator. The radar device also includes at least one transmission aerial for the transmission of the signal being present at the output of the oscillator. The transmission aerial is connected to the output of the oscillator. At least one receiver channel is provided for the reception of a received signal and for the processing of the received signal and for the transmission of the processed received signal to the control means. The receiver channel has at least one receiving aerial and a mixer for the mixing of the received signal with the signal which is present at the output of the oscillator. The mixer is connected to the output of the oscillator, and the output of the oscillator is connected to an input of a switchable amplifier and the amplifier provides a signal at the output and transmits it to the at least one mixer. A wattmeter is provided, which monitors the signal at the output of the amplifier and transmits it to the control means.

The invention includes a control means, an oscillator, with an input of the oscillator being connected via a converter to the control means, with it being able to address the oscillator via control means in order to generate a signal, and with it being possible to tap the signal generated via the oscillator at an output of the oscillator, at least one transmission antenna for transmitting the signals provided at the output of the oscillator, with the transmission antenna being connected to the output of the oscillator, and at least one receiver channel for receiving a receiver signal, for processing the receiver signal, and for forwarding the processed receiver signal to the control means, with the receiver channel comprising at least one receiving antenna for receiving the receiver signal and a mixer for mixing the receiver signal with the signal provided at the output of the oscillator, and with the mixer being connected to the output of the oscillator.
