An approach for transforming a large dataset using user interface-based transformations applied to a sample of the dataset is disclosed. The sample of the large dataset has the same or similar format as the large dataset. A user can quickly apply transformations to the sample dataset using UI-based instructions. The UI-based instructions can be used to create a transformation job that can be configured to run on a backed database, such as a distributed database, to apply the transformations to the large dataset.

One of the methods includes presenting user interface information that includes multiple visual portions associated with input of types of code. User input of code with respect to one or more of the visual portions is received, and code input in a particular visual portion includes code to be compiled and/or imports associated with particular libraries. Rendering of the input code is caused, and the rendering is presented in an output visual portion. A system can receive the code input in the particular visual portion over a network. The system can compile the received code and package the received code with associated libraries. The system can provide the packaged code to the user device to be interpreted during rendering of the input code.
