A reinforced plastic composite structure, particularly a pipe, is disclosed herein. The composite pipe, which resists acid attack even in underground applications where the pipe is subjected to external loading stresses, typically includes at least an inner zone, e.g. a resin impregnated fibrous sheet and an outer zone including a layer or layers of fibers. A cured polymeric resin matrix bonds the fibrous sheet and the fibrous layers together in a laminar relationship. The improvement disclosed herein comprises incorporating into this polymeric resin matrix a particulate substance which has specific particle size limitations and which is selected from the group consisting of portland cement, marble dust or a mixture thereof.

A cured elastomeric film coating, on the surface of a cementitious article, prepared from the application of an aqueous dispersion of colloidal silica and an anionically stabilized hydroxylated polydiorganosiloxane is improved in water impermeability, adhesion to the surface of the article and gains abrasion resistance when the cured film coating is allowed to stand in open air for approximately four weeks prior to use.

The present invention relates to hydrothermally cured articles of manufacture and the processes for making the same. In the past, calcium carbonate has been included in such articles and processes a number inert filler materials to alter physical characteristics, appearance, etc. The present invention comprises incorporating crystalline calcium carbonate, preferably in the form of powdered marble, with the normal constituents to dilute the relative amounts of these constituents and thus make a more economic blend without substantial degradation to the physical characteristics of the article of manufacture incorporating such crystalline calcium carbonate.

A conduit especially suitable for carrying high temperature fluids is disclosed herein and includes an outer casing, a concentric inner core and an intermediate concentric layer of insulation material. The conduit also includes what may be referred to as a pressure relief valve located through the outer casing of the conduit and extending into the concentric layer of insulation material. In the event that the fluid finds its way into this layer of insulation material and in the event it expands, the pressure relief valve provides a readily available passage to the ambient surroundings for the expanding fluid.

Heat insulated conduit especially suitable for carrying high temperature

A joint assembly connected with one end of a heat insulated conduit which includes an outer casing, a concentric inner core and an intermediate concentric layer of insulation material is disclosed herein. This assembly defines a passage extending from the conduit core outwardly to the outer surface of the joint assembly. This passage is provided such that fluid therein and under a predetermined amount of pressure in the direction towards the outer surface of the assembly will move out of the passage in the direction of pressure, i.e., to the outer surface of the joint assembly rather than into the layer of insulation material comprising part of the conduit.
