A surgical implant device, including: an implant body; a porous layer disposed adjacent to the implant body, wherein the porous layer includes a lattice of intersecting struts; and a plurality of needle structures protruding from the porous layer opposite the implant body, wherein at least some of the plurality of needle structures traverse the porous layer and are anchored to the implant body. The plurality of needle structures that traverse the porous layer and are anchored to the implant body are coupled to one or more intersecting struts of the lattice. Optionally, some of the plurality of needle structures are spaced apart from the implant body and are anchored only to the porous layer. Preferably, one or more of the implant body, the porous layer, and the plurality of needle structures are formed by an additive manufacturing technique.

Surgical implant devices incorporating porous surfaces and associated method of manufacture

A surgical implant device, comprising: a body portion; and one or more surfaces comprising a plurality of protruding structures; wherein the body portion and the one or more surfaces comprising the plurality of protruding structures are integrally formed. The one or more surfaces comprising the plurality of protruding structures are formed by an additive manufacturing process. The plurality of protruding structures comprise a plurality of needles. Optionally, the surgical implant device comprises one of an anterior lumbar interbody fusion cage, a posterior lumbar interbody fusion cage, a transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion cage, an oblique lumbar interbody fusion cage, a cervical cage, and a bone screw.

Surgical implant devices incorporating porous surfaces

The present invention provides a bone screw or bone anchor, such as a threaded pedicle screw or the like, incorporating a porous surface for enhancing bony fixation, ingrowth, and purchase when implanted in bone. Preferably, this porous surface covers at least a portion of the threads of the bone screw or bone anchor. The porous surface is formed by a conventional or novel additive manufacturing process, such as three-dimensional (3D) printing or the like, optionally as well as a prior and/or subsequent machining process. The porous surface may include novel needle-like protrusions and/or lattice structures, and/or any other protruding/depressed features, whether regular or irregular.

Bone screw incorporating a porous surface formed by an additive manufacturing process

A surgical implant device, comprising: a body portion defining a plurality of ports; a plurality of bone screws disposed partially through the plurality of ports defined by the body portion; a locking plate disposed over a head portion of at least one of the plurality of bone screws and engaging a plurality of recesses manufactured into a side of the body portion; and a screw operable for compressing the locking plate against the side of the body portion. Optionally, the surgical implant device further comprising: one or more surfaces comprising a plurality of protruding structures; wherein the body portion and the one or more surfaces comprising the plurality of protruding structures are integrally formed. The one or more surfaces comprising the plurality of protruding structures are formed by an additive manufacturing process.

Surgical implant devices incorporating porous surfaces and a locking plate

A surgical plate device that incorporates a screw locking mechanism in each screw hole by which the surgical plate device is affixed to a bony segment. The screw locking mechanism includes a tab structure emanating from an interior portion (or either surface) of the surgical plate that is biased into a portion of the corresponding screw hole. When a screw is inserted into the screw hole, the head of the screw temporarily biases the tab structure out of the screw hole, until the head of the screw passes below the plane of the tab structure, at which point the tab structure rebounds into the previously occupied portion of the screw hole, thereby covering a portion of the head of the screw and preventing it from 'backing out.'

Surgical plate device incorporating a screw locking mechanism

A driver device (hexalobe or otherwise) that includes a handle portion, an elongate shaft portion, and an end portion that includes a screw engagement portion and a split manufactured offset from the central axis of the end portion and/or the screw engagement portion, forming two asymmetric halves of the end portion and/or screw engagement portion. This screw engagement portion is slightly oversized relative to the corresponding tool engagement recess of the locking cap, set screw, or bone screw. Thus, when the screw engagement portion is pressed into the corresponding tool engagement recess of the locking cap, set screw, or bone screw, the split manufactured offset from the central axis of the end portion and/or the screw engagement portion allows the screw engagement portion to compress slightly, creating a friction fit between the screw engagement portion and the corresponding tool engagement recess of the locking cap, set screw, or bone screw.

Split hexalobe driver device for use in surgical procedures

An anterior cervical plate has a lower surface adapted to engage the cervical spine and a top surface. At least one location along the plate there are two transversely aligned bone screw holes. A locking element is pivotally mounted between these two bone screw holes for movement between an open position which uncovers the two bone screw holes and a locking position wherein the locking element at least partially covers each of the two bone screw holes. A positive positioning structure positively positions the locking element in the locking position.

Anterior cervical plate

A spinal spacer assembly comprises spacer tubes of different cross sections including kidney shaped, oblong, oval and round. The spacer tubes have internal ribs for receiving top and bottom end caps. Such end caps are pressed into the top and bottom openings of the spacer tube so as to be supported on and frictionally engage the internal ribs. The end caps are flush with the tops and bottoms of the spacer tubes except for serrations on the end caps which may project outwardly therefrom.

Twin gear drive assembly for a bicycle

A postcard is entirely covered on one side with adhesive and overlaid with a protective sheet. A weakened line divides the protective sheet into a central portion and a perimetric border portion. In a first application of the invention, the central portion of the protective sheet is removed to expose a space for receiving a photograph of conventional size and the perimetric border portion is left in place to serve as a frame protecting the edges of the photograph. In a second application, both the central portion and the perimetric border portion are removed to expose the entire adhesive-coated surface of the postcard, thus making room for a larger sized photograph.

A panel has a reflective surface and a back surface. Support means engageable with a shower head holds the panel in a position in which water from the shower head is received against the back surface. Heated water from the shower head, received against the back surface, prevents condensation upon the reflective surface. The panel is movable to a position remote from the stream of water from the shower head for normal bathing activities.
