A composition having the structure of formula I:[R—Ar—(COOH)][Ar—(COOH)]M  (I) is provided where M is Mn, Cu, Co, Fe, Zn, Cd, Ni, or Pt; R is a bromine, nitro, a primary amine, C-Calkyl secondary amine, C-Calkyl oxy, Br—(C-Calkyl), NO—(C-Calkyl), a mercaptan, and reaction products of any of the aforementioned with acyl chlorides of the formulas: CH(CH)C(O)Cl, or CH(CH(C-Calkyl)CH)C(O)Cl, or CH(CH)-Ph-(CH)C(O)Cl, where Ph is a Cphenyl or Cphenyl with one or more hydrogens replaced with F, C-Cfluoroalkyl, or C-Cperfluoroalkyl; m is independently in each occurrence an integer of 0 to 12 inclusive; p is an integer of 0 to 36 inclusive, to form an amide, a thioamide, or an ester; Ar is a 1,3,5-modified phenyl, and 1.4>×>0. A process of synthesis thereof and the use to chemically modify a gaseous reactant are also provided.

Multivariate carboxylate derivatized phenyl-based metal-organic frameworks

A process of synthesis thereof and the use to chemically modify a gaseous reactant are also provided.

A polymer-based material includes a polymeric binder and one or more porous active materials that adsorb, chemisorb, decompose, or a combination thereof, a hazardous chemical. The polymeric binder and the one or more porous active materials are combined to form a composite bead. The polymeric binder may include a polyurethane or a styrene-based block copolymer. The porous active materials may comprise metal-organic frameworks, metal oxides, metal hydroxides, and metal hydrates. The one or more porous active materials may be between 1 and 99 wt % of a total composite mass of the composite bead. Alternatively, the one or more porous active materials may be between 80 and 95 wt % of a total composite mass of the composite bead. The hazardous chemical may include a chemical warfare agent, a simulant of chemical warfare agents, and toxic industrial chemicals.
