In a method for monitoring a function computer in a control unit which controls the generation of torque by an internal combustion engine, a maximum acceptable torque value is determined from a driver request. A torque actual value is determined from operational characteristic variables of the internal combustion engine and is compared with the maximum acceptable value. The air supply is limited when there is an unacceptably large actual value. The method is distinguished by the fact that the limitation takes place when a fault counter reading exceeds a threshold value. The fault counter reading is increased if the torque actual value is higher than the maximum acceptable torque value and is reduced by a predetermined value if the torque actual value is lower than the maximum acceptable value. In addition, a control unit which is configured to carry out the method is presented.

Safety concept in electronic throttle control of internal combustion engine controllers

A cruise control device has an activation device embodied as a key button. By activating the activation device it is possible to transfer the cruise control device, from a switched off operating state to a switched on standby operating state, and by a further activation of the activation device it is possible to transfer the cruise control device from the standby operating state to a switched on control operating state. The cruise control device has a storage device storing a state of the cruise control device immediately before the motor vehicle is switched off and a readout device which reads out the stored state of the cruise control device immediately after the motor vehicle is switched on. If the cruise control device had a switched on operating state immediately before the ignition device is last switched off, the cruise control device is transferred automatically to the standby operating state.

Cruise control device

A method and device are provided for limiting, in a first operating condition, a motor vehicle internal-combustion engine torque. The operating condition, resulting from an operation of a motor vehicle brake, when the engine torque is simultaneously demanded by a driver's intention indicator, differs from a second operating condition, in which the brake is not operated. The limiting takes place at least partially by way of a controlled reduction of an advance angle efficiency in the first operating condition in comparison to the second operating condition.

Method and device for controlling an internal-combustion engine before a starting operation

An engine control device controls an engine of a motor vehicle. The engine control device predefines an admissible engine torque on the basis of a torque envelope curve in dependence on an accelerator pedal position and an engine speed. The engine control device is connected to a diagnostic device. An intervention variable, that represents an engine torque and/or an engine speed and on the basis of which the engine can be actuated for test/diagnostic purposes, can be predefined for the engine control device by the diagnostic device. When at least one test criterion is fulfilled in the engine control device and/or the diagnostic device, the torque envelope curve of the engine control device can be widened or bypassed for test/diagnostic purposes in such a way that given an unactivated accelerator pedal for a defined engine torque at the request of the diagnostic device a larger engine torque is admissible.

Engine control device

For controlling an internal combustion engine, the activation of an accelerator pedal is sensed and a setpoint value for the angle setting of the throttle valve is determined in dependence on the measured variable of an accelerator pedal value signal transmitter and on further influencing variables from a vehicle movement dynamics control device, a cruise controller device and/or a gearbox control device. The setpoint value is restricted to an unthrottled throttle valve angle of an unthrottled state of the engine. An over travel of the throttle valve, which corresponds to an adjustment range of the throttle valve between the unthrottled throttle valve angle and a fully open setting of the throttle valve is used, in dependence on the measured variable and at least one of the influencing variables, to open the throttle valve beyond the unthrottled throttle valve angle.
