An aqueous microemulsion containing at least one phenolic compound, specifically thymol and/or carvacerol, a solubilizer and water. This microemulsion can be applied to surfaces to provide disinfectant properties.

The present invention is directed to a series of lactic acid ester polymers that are effective in making uniform films. In addition to their film forming ability, these lactic acid polyesters provide unique solubility and esthetics in cosmetic formulations, they are far more hydrophobic than other citrate ester polymers previously disclosed.

The present invention is directed to a class of mixed polyglyceryl polyester quats that provide multifunctional benefit in personal care applications, including but not limited to (1) conditioning, (2) antistatic properties, (3) bacteriostatic properties and (4) exceptional mildness to skin and eyes. The products are made by the reaction reacting some on the many hydroxyl groups present on polyglycerin with (1) with fatty acids, then (2) diacids then reacted with epoxy cationic compounds to make film forming cationic polymers that are bacteriostatic and of interest in inhibiting biofilm formation on environmental surfaces.

The present invention is directed to a series of polymers containing end groups that are absorb ultraviolet (UV) light. The invention is also to the use of such compounds in the cosmetic, toiletry and personal care areas. These polymers can be utilized to produce films and provide solvent properties for the formulation of for ultra-violet absorbing formulations (like sunscreens) and provide outstanding dispensability and anti-agglomeration properties for inorganic sunscreens containing ZnO and TiO. The ability to provide uniform non agglomerating sun care formulations results in formulations with increase SPF values and improved 'water-resistant' properties in cosmetic formulation. The compounds of the present invention by themselves do not have ultra violet absorption at the particular wavelength that contributes to sun protection and consequently are not themselves sunscreens.

Photostabilizing polymer

The present invention is directed to a specific class on pigment reactive silicone polymers that contain both higher alkyl groups and reactive trialkoxy silanes present in the backbone of a specific silicone polymer. By carefully selecting the proper reactive silicone polymer and treating the pigment with said polymer a surprisingly stable and efficient coating is applied the pigment, most importantly ZnO and TiOas to render photo stability and alter solubility of the pigment in a variety of solvents.

Butters are a specific class of cosmetic triglycerides that provide a unique feel on skin. There are very few such materials in nature. In order for a butter to be of interest to the personal care market, it must be (1) soft at room temperature; (2) must not 'crack' when handled; (3) must be able to be applied to the skin at ambient temperature by rubbing; (4) must liquefy upon rubbing, (5) must be free of rancidity and (6) must be free of trans acids that are the result of partial hydrogenation. For unsaturated oils to be made into butters, partial hydrogenation is the most common approach. This results in the formation of trans acids which are highly undesirable. The present invention discloses a series of non-hydrogenated butters made by a process referred to as totally randomized triglycerides. The butters are made using a very specific range of very specific types and ratios of fatty acids to glycerin to provide the highly desirable cosmetic butters meeting the requirements 1-5 above.

The present invention is directed to a series of silicone containing polymers that contain photostabilizers that act as photo stabilizers for Ultra Violet radiation. The polymers of the present invention are multi functional sun-screening additives that allow in addition to photostabilizing the active sunscreen agent found in sunscreens, additionally provide high levels of UV protection in a cosmetically elegant base. The compounds are made by the reaction of a benzatriazole compound and a methyl ester silicone compound.

The present invention is directed toward a series of polyesters synthesized utilizing propane diol with tunable ascetics and performance in cosmetic formulation. These novel propane diol polyesters are designed to have great esthetics in cosmetic formulation. The physical properties and aesthetics of the current invention can be tuned rapidly by controlling the fatty groups, as well as the molecular weight of the polymer. The resulting propane diol polyesters have outstanding aesthetics and physical properties.

The present invention is directed to a series of glycerin based polymers that have been designed to have very specific substitution patterns, herein referred to as regiospecific substitution (RSS). The attachment of terminal mono-functional silicone polymers engineered polyesters of glycerin results in heretofore unrecognized products. The unique properties include lower surface tension, better spreadability and a dry skin feel, all of which cannot be attained without the use of a terminal silicone. Incorporation of silicone into the terminal position requires a very specific synthesis regime to establish the sought after regiospecificity.

The present invention is directed to a series of polyesters that are made by the reaction of a diacid with a pre-formed mono-hydroxy, di-hydroxy and optionally a tri-hydroxy ester of polyols selected from pentaerythritol, di pentearythritol trimethylolpropane and mixtures thereof. When reacted in the sequence shown, that is pre-formation of the mono-ester, di-ester and tri-ester, selection of the proper ratio of one to the other and then and only then reacted with the diacid, do these polyesters remain free of a gel and form cosmetically elegant oil phases.

The present invention is directed to a series of glycerin polysilicones. By glycerin polysilicones in meant polymers that have silicone portions that are functionalized with glycerin groups. The polymers of the present invention can range from relatively low molecular weight (around 600 daltons) to higher molecular weight (of about 2,500 daltons). The presence of the glyceryl groups together with the silicone groups allows for the preparation of molecules uniquely suited to personal care applications, more specifically, skin care products.

The present invention is drawn to a process for improving the efficiency of sunscreens using a series of polyesters based upon sorbeth ethoxylates esterified with fatty acids, then crosslinked with dimer acid. These polyesters exhibit a synergistic interaction with sunscreen actives improving the efficiency providing a 'shield' for the body from the harmful effects of the sun. These sorbitol alkoxylates are then reacted with dimer acid, resulting in a series of novel polyesters. The linking of the two spider esters together with dimer provide an amphilic macromolecule possessing both hydrophilic and hydrophobic portions covalently bonded to the same molecule, this provides both a boost in sun protection factor (SPF) and the ability for the sunscreen actives to be applied to wet skin.
