Examples of techniques for performing a wellbore construction operation in a wellbore are disclosed. In one example implementation according to aspects of the present disclosure, a computer-implemented method includes: performing a rheology test on a test fluid, the test fluid being representative of a fluid pumped through the wellbore, to generate test fluid data; performing, by the processing device, a data analysis on the test fluid data to generate at least one parameterized correlation; measuring a first property of the fluid to generate measured data; calculating, by the processing device, a second property of the fluid in the wellbore by using the parameterized correlations and the measured data to generate calculated data; and changing a parameter of the wellbore construction operation based at least in part on the calculated data.

In-situ rheology behavior characterization using data analytics techniques

A method and apparatus for predicting a formation parameter at a drill bit drilling a formation is disclosed. A vibration measurement is obtained at each of a plurality of depths in the borehole. A formation parameter is obtained proximate each of the plurality of depths in the borehole. A relationship is determined between the obtained vibration measurements and the measured formation parameters at the plurality of depths. A vibration measurement at a new drill bit location is obtained and the formation parameter at the new drill bit location is predicted from the vibration measurement and the determined relation. Formation type can be determined at the new drill bit location from the new vibration measurement and the determined relationship.

An apparatus for drilling a borehole in an earth formation includes: a plurality of drill pipes configured to be coupled together to form a drill string that is configured to convey an earth formation disintegrating device while progressing into the earth formation; a communication medium disposed on the drill string and configured to communicate a signal; and one or more processors. The one or more processors are configured to: receive drilling information; determine a stress distribution along at least a part of the drill string using the drilling information; determine a cumulative fatigue damage of at least a part of one drill pipe in the drill string using the stress distribution; and write the cumulative fatigue damage of the at least a part of one drill pipe to a memory.

A method of drilling a borehole in an earth formation includes deploying a drilling assembly including a drill bit and a drill string, and performing a drilling operation according to one or more operational parameters to advance the drilling assembly through the formation, wherein performing the drilling operation includes rotating the drill bit and at least a portion of the drill string. The method also includes, during the advancing, monitoring a downhole condition, determining whether the downhole condition indicates at least one of a cuttings accumulation in the borehole and wear of a downhole component, and in response to the downhole condition indicating the cuttings accumulation or the wear, adjusting at least one operational parameter to induce or adjust an oscillating motion in the drill string, the oscillating motion causing at least one of a reduction in the cuttings accumulation and a reduction of wear of the downhole component.

A method for estimating a time at which a pressure window relevant observation occurred relating to an event that occurred in an open borehole penetrating an earth formation includes: receiving with a processor a pressure window relevant observation that provides input to adjusting a pressure window for drilling fluid for drilling the borehole; and estimating with the processor a time window in which a physical parameter, a chemical parameter, or a process that caused the pressure window relevant observation to occur, the time window having a start time and an end time.

System and method for characterization of downhole measurement data for borehole stability prediction

The disclosure provides a method which includes transmitting signals over a time period between a downhole location and a surface location during drilling of a wellbore; recording the time of each signal at the surface using a surface clock and the time of each signal downhole using a downhole clock; and correcting the downhole measurements using the recorded times.

Disclosed is a method for estimating a geometry of a borehole penetrating the earth. The method includes: performing a plurality of borehole caliper measurements with N transducers at a plurality of times, wherein for each time a measurement set comprises measurements made by the N transducers at that time; dividing a cross-section of the borehole into S sectors; obtaining an estimate of the borehole geometry by connecting representative radius points in adjacent sectors; displacing each measurement set according to a displacement vector related to an offset of each measurement set from the estimated geometry if the displacement vector exceeds a selection criterion; iterating the obtaining an estimate of the borehole geometry and the displacing each measurement set based on a latest displacement vector; and providing a latest obtained estimate as the geometry of the borehole when all of the displacement vectors no longer exceed the selection criterion for the displacing.

The method includes, positioning a plurality of sensors within a wellbore, communicatively coupling the plurality of sensors, monitoring signals from the plurality of sensors, logging the sensed signals versus time versus depth of each of the plurality of sensors, locating at least one friction zone along the drillstring within the wellbore based on the logging and quantifying friction in the at least one friction zone based on the logging.

A system for drilling a well comprises a tubular member having a bottomhole assembly at a bottom end thereof disposed in a wellbore. A first sensor is disposed in the bottomhole assembly at a predetermined axial location for detecting bending in a first axis and generating a first bending signal in response thereto, where the first axis is substantially orthogonal to a longitudinal axis of the bottomhole assembly. A second sensor is disposed in the bottomhole assembly at the predetermined axial location for detecting bending in a second axis and generating a second bending signal in response thereto, where the second axis is substantially orthogonal to the longitudinal axis. A processor receives the first bending signal and the second bending signal and relates the first bending signal and the second bending signal to a borehole curvature according to programmed instructions.
