Disclosed herein is an agglomeration-resistant desulfurizing product for removing contaminants from a fluid stream. The agglomeration-resistant desulfurizing product comprising a metal oxide composition for reacting with contaminants and a polymeric crystallization inhibitor for reducing the agglomeration of the desulfurizing product resulting from using the desulfurizing product. A method to produce the agglomeration-resistant desulfurizing product and a method to treat a fluid stream is also disclosed.

Agglomeration-resistant desulfurizing product

The present invention relates to a compressed metal oxide composition particle comprised of metal oxide and an organic binder, with the binder preferably being a water insoluble cellulose composition. The present invention also relates to a method for forming a compressed metal oxide composition particle, with the preferred method including compressing a metal oxide and binder mixture to form compressed metal oxide composition particles having a final particle size of between about 0.1 mm and about 200 mm.

Method for removing sulfur compounds from fluids using compressed metal oxide composition particles

In ridding fluids, including hydrocarbon fluids, both gaseous and liquid, of sulfur compounds including hydrogen sulfide, oxides of sulfur, and thiols, the present invention uses a small quantity of an activator, generally a noble metal oxide, preferably a copper species and/or a manganese species, along with a known oxide product, such as iron oxide, iron hydroxide, zinc oxide, zinc hydroxide, manganese oxide, manganese hydroxide, or combinations thereof, to thoroughly remove sulfur contaminants in a short amount of time. The activator allows for the use of smaller reactor vessels and the production of hydrocarbon fluids substantially free of sulfur products.

Compressed metal oxide composition

A product, capable of treating contaminated fluids, preferably gases, is disclosed. The product contains a carrier, an activated metal oxide, an odor counteractant, a carrier for the odor counteractant, and an agent which limits diffusion of the odor counteractant. The product removes sulfur contaminants, such as hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans, while also reducing and/or neutralizing other common odor causing compounds in fluids, preferably gases. Methods of making and using the product are also disclosed.

Product for treating contaminated fluids and method of making and using the same

A method and corrosion inhibitor for inhibiting corrosion of metal equipment in an aqueous medium comprising components selected from the group consisting of fish, other algae, and a combination thereof. The method comprises incorporating into the medium a corrosion inhibiting amount of a water soluble corrosion inhibitor comprising an N-ethoxy, 2-substituted imidazoline. The N-ethoxy substituent comprises a quantity of ethylene oxide effective to render the imidazoline water soluble. The corrosion inhibitor is rendered more environmentally compatible by shortening the number of carbon atoms in the fatty acid chain at the 2-position of the imidazoline. The fatty acid chain consists essentially about 18 carbon atoms or less, preferably about 10 carbon atoms or less, most preferably from about 6 to about 8 carbon atoms. As the number of carbon atoms in the fatty acid chain is reduced, the efficacy of the corrosion inhibitor is increased by combination with a wetting agent, preferably an ethoxylated alcohol having from about 8 to about 10 carbon atoms.

Combinations of imidazolines and wetting agents as environmentally acceptable corrosion inhibitors

A novel method for inhibiting oxygen corrosion in an oil well, and an emulsion useful therein. The method comprises introducing into the well a pourable emulsion comprising about 50 to about 95 volume percent discontinuous aqueous phase, about 5 to about 50 volume percent continuous oil phase, and a corrosion inhibiting amount of a composition comprising a corrosion inhibitor selected from among thiophosphates containing both oxygen and sulfur, pyrophosphates containing both oxygen and sulfur and mixtures thereof.

Methods and emulsions for inhibition of oil well corrosion

A method for inhibiting corrosion of a metal surface in a liquid medium is described. The method comprises incorporating into the medium a corrosion inhibiting amount of a combination of a surfactant that forms a bilayer on the metal surface in the fluid and a corrosion inhibitor that solubilizes in the medium in the presence of the surfactant. The amount of surfactant is sufficient to produce a bilayer on the metal surface in the medium. The combination is a. an anionic surfactant that forms a bilayer on the metal surface and a cationic corrosion inhibitor; b. a cationic surfactant that forms a bilayer on the metal surface and an anionic corrosion inhibitor; c. an ionic surfactant that forms a bilayer on the metal surface and an ionic corrosion inhibitor having a pendent, generally straight chain hydrocarbon or substituted hydrocarbon moiety of from about 10 to about 18 carbon atoms; or d. an ionic surfactant that forms a bilayer on the metal surface and a non-ionic corrosion inhibitor. Related compositions and methods are also disclosed.
