A service unit including a vessel defining a chamber configured to receive fluid. A first conduit is coupled to the vessel and is in fluid communication with the chamber. The first conduit defines an inlet. A second conduit is coupled to the vessel and is in fluid communication with the chamber. The second conduit defines an outlet. The first conduit, the chamber, and the second conduit define a fluid passageway, and the fluid is unpressurized when in the chamber.

Maintenance unit for an inboard marine engine

A process is provided for making amphoteric surfactant compositions from substituted imidazolines whereby such substituted imidazolines are reacted with chloroacetate salts and then hydrolyzed to open the imidazoline ring and produce a solution which is substantially completely free from cyclic groups. The product solutions are highly foamable and have low skin irritation and low eye irritation characteristics.

Substituted imidazoline reactions with chloroacetate salts

A process for making substituted imidazoline substantially completely free from diamide and preferably from byproduct ester. The process involves contacting an aminoethyl lower alkanol amine with a methyl carboxylate at elevated temperature and thereafter subjecting the reaction product to two successive heat treatments under specified conditions. A feature of the process is that it contains an optional step which can be employed to correct the formation of unwanted amounts of ester in the product. The product imidazoline is useful as a starting material for making amphoteric surfactants.

Process for making imidazolines

Alpha olefin sulfonates generally commercially made by reacting SO.sub.3 with alpha olefins followed by neutralization and saponification with base (typically sodium hydroxide), and subsequently bleaching, characteristically may contain by-product impurities which are non-sulfonate sulfur containing organic compounds. These impurities chiefly sultones, can be substantially completely eliminated by the process sequence of the present disclosure which involves heating and bleaching and pH adjustment under specified conditions. Surprisingly, such and similar organic sulfurous impurities are eliminated during such heating and do not reform under such bleaching and pH adjustment.
