A system for detecting angle-of-arrival (AoA) includes a first device and at least one second device. The first device transmits a Bluetooth (BT) packet, and the second device receives the BT packet and determines an AoA of the BT packet. The second device includes a first radio-frequency (RF) antenna to receive a first RF signal and a second RF antenna to receive a second RF signal. The second device also includes a first BT core and a second BT-core and a processing circuit. The first BT core is coupled to the first RF antenna and is used to generate a first signal based on the first RF signal. The second BT core is coupled to the second RF antenna and generates a second signal based on the second RF signal. The processing circuit measures a phase difference between the first signal and the second signal and determines the AoA based on the phase difference.

Angle-of-arrival detection using a dual-core bluetooth receiver

In some aspects, the disclosure is directed to methods and systems for in-packet transmission power control. Measurement circuitry in communication with a transmission stage of a device is configured to generate a transmitted signal strength measurement signal based on an output of the transmission power amplifier during transmission of a packet. Measurement conversion circuitry connected to the measurement circuitry is configured to convert the transmitted signal strength measurement signal from the measurement circuitry to an output power measurement. Power control circuitry connected to the measurement conversion circuitry is configured to generate a power correction signal based on the output power measurement and an output power target value. Power ramping circuitry connected to the power control circuitry is configured to provide a gain signal to the transmission stage of the device based on the power correction signal.

Bluetooth in-packet power trimming

A method and system detect directionality between two objects by measuring angles of signals incident on antenna arrays on at least one side to determine angle of incidence. The methods utilize Bluetooth Low Energy communications for both the control protocol and for providing updated information for deriving directionality. Directionality information is broadcast on selected BLE advertising or data channels, or broadcast using a hopping pattern over the BLE data channels, both at a specific interval duty cycle. If a hopping pattern is selected to transmit directionality information, then anchor information is simultaneously broadcast on the BLE advertising or data channels at a different, asynchronous duty cycle. In additional embodiments, signals incident on antenna arrays located on both target and tracking sides are used to determine angle of incidence, separate antennas are combined to form new antennas and antenna models are used to anticipate known antenna structure responses.

Method for determining directionality using bluetooth low energy communications

A device implementing adaptive gain table selection based at least on coexistence signaling may include at least one processor circuit. The at least one processor circuit may be configured to identify that a packet is scheduled to be received by a receiver and retrieve at least one transmission indicator that indicates whether at least one transmitter is transmitting, where the at least one transmitter is collocated with the receiver within a device. The at least one processor circuit may be further configured to select a first gain table for reception of the packet by the receiver when the at least one transmission indicator indicates that the at least one transmitter is transmitting, otherwise selecting a second gain table for reception of the packet by the receiver. The at least one processor circuit may be further configured to apply gain to the receiver based at least on the selected gain table.

Coexistence signaling for adaptive gain table selection

A method of communicating data in a Bluetooth&#x2122; low energy (BLE) module is provided. The method includes modulating an outbound communication signal into a modulated signal with a particular modulation scheme based on a modulation type, and transmitting the modulated signal to a remote device via a wireless communication connection associated with the modulation type. The method also includes receiving an inbound radio frequency (RF) signal, determining if the inbound RF signal is associated with a modulation type, and demodulating the inbound RF signal with a particular modulation scheme based on the modulation type if the inbound RF signal is determined to be associated with a modulation type. In some aspects, the inbound RF signal and outbound modulated signal have symbol rates of 2 Megasymbols per second. In some implementations, the method includes switching between a legacy BLE system and an enhanced rate BLE system.

Enhanced rate physical layer for Bluetooth&#x2122; low energy

Systems and apparatuses are provided for negating the degradation effects of fundamental coupling between at least two near field communication (NFC) enabled devices, at least one of which can receive frequency modulation (FM) signals. Due to the fundamental coupling, strong NFC signals can mix with blocking signals associated with a desired/tuned-to FM frequency causing degradation in FM receiver performance. By utilizing a notch filter at the front end of the FM receiver, the degradation in FM receiver performance caused by the fundamental coupling phenomenon can be avoided.

Reducing receiver performance degradation due to frequency coexistence

Systems and methods are described for enhancing the audio quality of an FM receiver. In embodiments described herein, a stop band noise signal is extracted from an L+R or L&#x2212;R signal produced by an FM stereo decoder. A channel quality measure is calculated based on the stop band noise signal and is used to control whether a pop suppression technique is applied to the L+R signal. The channel quality measure and the stop band noise signal are also leveraged to perform single-channel noise suppression in the frequency domain on the L&#x2212;R signal and on the L+R signal. The channel quality measure is also used to control the application of a fast fading compensation process that replaces noisy segments of the L&#x2212;R and L+R signal with replacement waveforms generated via waveform extrapolation.

Systems and methods for enhancing audio quality of FM receivers

Systems and methods are described for enhancing the audio quality of an FM receiver. In embodiments described herein, quadrature L&#x2212;R demodulation is applied to a composite baseband signal output by an FM demodulator to obtain an L&#x2212;R noise signal. A channel quality measure is calculated based on the L&#x2212;R noise signal and is used to control whether a pop suppression technique is applied to an L+R signal obtained from the composite baseband signal to detect and remove noise pulses therefrom. The channel quality measure and the L&#x2212;R noise signal are also leveraged to perform single-channel noise suppression in the frequency domain on an L&#x2212;R signal obtained from the composite baseband signal and on the L+R signal. The channel quality measure is also used to control the application of a fast fading compensation process that replaces noisy segments of the L&#x2212;R and L+R signal with replacement waveforms generated via waveform extrapolation.

Aspects of a method and system for a wireless integrated power test and measurement are provided. In this regard, concurrently with receiving a first signal via a first antenna, a second signal that indicates received signal strength of the first signal may be generated and transmitted via a second antenna. The second signal may be utilized to determine performance of the first antenna. A frequency of the generated second signal may be controlled so as to mitigate interference between the transmitted second signal and the received first signal. The first signal may be formatted in accordance with one or more first wireless standards and the second signal may be formatted in accordance with one or more second wireless standards. The received signal strength of the first signal may be determined via an analog-to-digital converter and the second signal may be updated at the sample rate of the analog-to-digital converter.

In a radio comprising a transmitter and a receiver, transmission and reception of signals may be controlled based on received signal strength measurements from a signal strength indicator module and transmitted signal strength measurements from the signal strength indicator module. For the transmitted signal strength measurements, the shared signal strength indicator module may measure signal strength of a signal output by a power amplifier. For the received signal strength measurements, the shared signal strength indicator module may measure signal strength of a received signal. A capacitance coupled to an output of the power amplifier may be configured based on a frequency of the signal output by the power amplifier. A gain of the power amplifier may be controlled based on the transmitted signal strength measurements. For the transmitted signal strength measurements, an analog-to-digital converter may process the signal output by the power amplifier.

Method and system for signal strength measurement

A method and system for wireless communication is provided and may include transmitting FM radio signals utilizing antenna configurations in a wireless device including a frequency modulation (FM) radio transmitter, an FM radio receiver, and one or more other receivers. The transmitter may be calibrated based on a signal received from a second wireless device via the other receivers. The second wireless device may include an FM radio receiver and corresponding other transmitters that may utilize other wireless protocols. The signal received at the wireless device may be generated at the second wireless device via the other transmitters. A frequency of the transmitted FM radio signals may be varied, and may be utilized adjust the antenna configurations. An impedance of the antenna configurations may be matched based on the frequency variation. A capacitive and/or inductive load for the matching of the impedance of the antenna configurations may be programmably adjusted.

Method and system for measuring and optimizing integrated antenna performance

A device may include a communication module that is arranged and configured to establish a wireless connection with a remote device and a remote mode module that is arranged and configured to receive and process an enabling command that places the device in a host controller interface (HCI) remote control mode, where the HCI remote control mode enables the device to be controlled by the remote device using one or more HCI commands over the wireless connection.

The best impedance match between the antenna and the chip may be determined utilizing a correction algorithm. The correction algorithm may be determined utilizing data from an external test set that measures signals transmitted by the chip via the antenna. The reflected signals may be routed to a signal analyzer via on on-chip directional coupler. The best impedance match may be determined for each of a plurality of frequencies and/or each of a plurality of transmit signal strengths.

Method and system for matching an integrated FM system to an antenna utilizing on-chip measurement of reflected signals

Methods and systems for optimizing an FM transmitter and FM receiver in a single chip FM transmitter and receiver are disclosed and may include receiving an FM signal from each of multiple selected antenna configurations. The received signal strength obtained for each configuration may be measured and stored in a memory, and FM signals may be transmitted and/or received utilizing a configuration that generates a received signal strength above a desired threshold from the measurement. The FM transmitter and receiver may be integrated on-chip, and may be impedance matched to the antennas utilizing selectable capacitors integrated on-chip and/or off-chip and selectable inductors located off-chip. The multiple antennas may comprise antennas that are internal and antennas that are external to the wireless device, each of which may be tuned for one or more wireless protocols. One or more of the antennas may comprise metal components within the wireless device.

Method and system for optimizing an FM transmitter and FM receiver in a single chip FM transmitter and FM receiver system

Aspects of a method and system for matching an integrated FM system to an antenna utilizing on-chip measurement of reflected signals are provided. In this regard a portion of a signal output by an integrated FM radio transmit block and reflected by an antenna may be routed to an on-chip signal analyzer. Accordingly, measurements of the reflected signals may be utilized to configure a matching network in order to provide a best impedance match between the FM radio and the antenna. In this regard, a best impedance match may maximize radiation efficiency and/or radiated power. Additionally, the configuration of the matching network may incorporate a correction algorithm/offset experimentally determined via a calibration utilizing external components.
