A computer-implemented system may include an application platform comprising a platform model of a plurality of business objects, each of the business objects comprising a model of data and associated logic, and a public solution model comprising a subset of the platform model. The system may also include a business application, wherein a data model and access logic of the business application are defined based on the public solution model, and wherein the application platform is to provide services to the business application based on the data model, the access logic and the platform model.

Public solution model in an enterprise service architecture

A plurality of domain-specific service adaptation languages can be supported by a back-end service adaptation system to provide runtime access to a runtime instance of a data object comprising data stored in a repository. By defining a language-specific data access service and parser for each domain-specific service adaptation language, a single, service adaptation language-independent compiler and interpreter can prepare and execute a runtime load that includes an execution plan for retrieving and converting data from the repository for delivery in a data object according to a query request from a consumer runtime environment. A consumer using the consumer runtime environment can define the service adaptation language to be used and provide a parser and source code to enable access to business object data using the back-end service adaptation system.

Extending the functionality of enterprise services

A method includes receiving a representation of a service, the service including handling of a request for a context-dependent data set derived from one or more collections of data elements. The representation includes a specification of a first data field, a specification of an input data structure including two or more data fields and the first data field, the two or more data fields defining a context for the first data set, a specification of an output data structure, instances of the output data structure including the context-dependent data set, and a name of a service provider. The method stores the representation of the service in a repository, receives a request for the service by a software entity, the request including an instance of the input data structure, checks the request against the representation of the service, sends the request to the service provider, receives one or more instances of the output data structure from the service provider, and sends the one or more instances of the output data structure to the software entity.

Dynamic value sets in a service-oriented business framework

Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, for using a meta model for an enterprise service architecture. The meta model includes a first class to represent data organization in a back end data store. The first class includes a data type identifier attribute to permit meta data to identify a data type. The meta model also includes a second class associated with the first class. The second class includes a field identifier attribute to permit meta data to identify fields for a particular data type. The meta model also includes a third class associated with the first class. The third class includes an action identifier attribute to permit meta data to identify an action. In some examples, there is a service provider identifier to permit meta data to identify a service provider class that can effect the action.

Meta model for an enterprise service architecture

Business object templates which include a plurality of hierarchically arranged entities and characterize services associated with the entities can be used to generate new business objects. These new business objects are generated based on projections of the business object template. In some variations, the business objects include a subset of the entities defined by the business object template. In other variations, the business objects include all of the entities defined by the business object template but with only certain entities being activated.

A computer-readable medium including instructions for performing a method for implementing a reusable template entity within a software system. The method includes retrieving a template entity from a repository in response to a request, wherein the template entity contains a plurality of elements related to a plurality of roles associated with the template entity and determining, based on metadata related to the at least one template entity and the request, a list of elements from the plurality of elements to undergo state modification. The method further includes adapting the template entity according to the list of elements to yield a projected entity and providing an instance of the projected entity.

Projected business objects

Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, provided default values for business objects. In one exemplary embodiment, there is provided a method for providing default values for attributes of business objects. The method may comprise receiving, at a first service provider, a call to instantiate a first business object. The method may then obtain a static default value of an attribute associated with the first business object. A second service provider may be called to determine a dynamic default value for the attribute based on the static default value. The first service provider may then be provided with the dynamic default value for use when instantiating the first business object.

Systems and methods for accessing multiple portals using a unique business language semantic are provided. Business information and services are provided to customers during, for example, a supply chain management process. An accessible business environment is provided which includes a common repository. The common repository has access to one or more business portals. One can search the product listing in the common repository using a browser, e.g., a web-based browser. In response to a search, one may be provided with a product list indicating some available business portals having the specific product and/or service. The common repository entries are described by a predetermined semantical description.
