A reactor for the catalytic oxidation of ammonia to form nitrogen oxides which has a noble metal gauze catalyst and a heat exchanger in that order in the direction of flow, a catalyst for the decomposition of N O is located between the noble metal gauze catalyst and the heat exchanger and in a process for the catalytic decomposition of N O in a gas mixture obtained in the preparation of nitric acid by catalytic oxidation of ammonia, where the N O is decomposed catalytically over a catalyst of the decomposition of N O, the hot gas mixture obtained from the catalytic oxidation of ammonia is brought to contact with the catalyst for the decomposition of N O prior to subsequent cooling.

Method for the catalytic decomposition of N2O

A copper-containing catalyst of the composition of N O contains a compound of the formula M Al O , where M is Cu or a mixture of Cu and Zn and/or Mg and x is from 0.8 to 1.5. The novel catalyst is used in a process for the catalytic decomposition of pure N O or N O contained in gas mixtures, at elevated temperatures.

High-temperature stabile catalysts for decomposing N2O

The invention relates to a method and a device for cleaning flowing gases. To reduce the total emissions, nitrogen oxides, especially NO and NOx, are extracted at least partially from the gas to be scrubbed, in the temperature range from 50 and 300&deg; C., preferably between 50 and 150&deg; C. To extract the nitrogen oxides, an intermediate storage medium is used that is composed of a storage material and a supporting material for the storage material. The intermediate storage medium having in particular a composition of the formal chemical formula Ag.CuAl O in an Al O matrix, with the composition being a spinel or being of the spinel type, and with the composition having characteristic spinel lines in the x-ray spectrum, where 0&lE;x<1.

Process and apparatus for cleaning a gas flow

An exhaust gas purification device includes a porous body of catalytic material of the general formula A B O disposed in an exhaust gas stream of an engine. The porous body of catalytic material has a characteristic response temperature above which it is catalytically active to reduce pollutants in the presence of a reducing agent. The porous body stores at least 20% by volume hydrocarbons at temperatures below the response temperature. A represent at least one element selected from Mg, Ca, Mn, Fe, Ni, Co, Cu, Zn, Sn, Ti and A&plus;B is less than 3, A is greater than 0 and B greater than 0.

A storage catalyst includes (1) a component that has a catalytic reducing action for nitrogen oxides at least in the presence of hydrocarbons, and (2) a component that stores NOx at least at temperatures of below 100&deg; C. The catalytically active component is of the general chemical formula A B O , where A is one or more divalent metals and B is one or more trivalent metals, and where a&plus;b&lE;3 and a, b>0. The reaction enthalpy or the chemical activity between the catalytically active component and the NOx-storing component is low at least up to temperatures of 600&deg; C.
