A device, system and method automatically detects orientation and/or location of a person. To increase the robustness and accuracy, the device includes an image data interface () for obtaining image data of a person (), which image data includes a sequence of image frames over time, a motion detector () for detecting motion within said image data, a motion intensity detector () for identifying motion hotspots representing image areas showing frequently occurring motion, and a person detector () for detecting the orientation and/or location of at least part of the person () based on the identified motion hotspots.

The invention relates to a medical monitoring system () based on sound analysis in a medical environment. A sound level analyzer (SLA,) is capable of providing an indicator for perceived levels of sound from a number of sound events, and a data storage modality (DSM,) is receiving and storing said indicator for perceived levels of sound and also corresponding information from an associated patient monitoring system (PMS,) handling information indicative of a physical and/or mental condition of a patient under influence by sound. A sound event analyzer (SEA,) is further being arranged for performing, within a defined time window, an overall sound analysis (ANA,) related to physical and/or mental condition of the patient that may be influenced by sound in order to assist or supervise medical personal with respect to the acoustic environment.

System using on- or in-body communication technologies such as body-sound communication (BSC) or body-coupled communication (BCC) to obtain information on the body composition of a patient (e.g. water content/hydration level on bone density/joint status). The system, in a preferred embodiment, comprises a transmitter, receiver and processor connected to the receiver. The transmitter is arranged to transmit a signal through a medium (the body of the patient), the signal comprising a plurality of different frequency components and transmission technologies. The receiver is arranged to receive the signal following propagation through the said medium. The processor is arranged to generate, at a first time, one or more transfer functions from the received signal, each transfer function defining values for a predetermined signal parameter at different frequencies. The processor then generates, at a second time, one or more further transfer functions from the received signal and compares a transfer function with the further transfer function for the same signal parameter. An output is generated if the difference between the transfer function and the further transfer function exceeds a preset threshold.

In summary, the present invention relates to a device, a method, a system and a computer program enabling to ensure a reliable communication even under difficult radio frequency conditions. In case data cannot be successfully communicated by a radio frequency communication, the data may be transmitted to another device by a body-coupled communication via a human or animal body. The other device can act as a relay and forward the data to an intended destination. Thus, data may be successfully transmitted to the intended destination even under difficult radio frequency conditions due to body shadowing or other effects.

The present invention relates to a transceiver device for processing a medium access control (MAC) protocol used by a transceiver. The transceiver has a first antenna system for on-body communications and a second antenna system for off-body communications, the transceiver device being designed to reserve one or more data payloads for on-body communications and to allocate the first antenna system to the transceiver for the interval of time occupied by these data payloads, and/or to reserve one or more data payloads for off-body communications and to allocate the second antenna system to the transceiver for the interval of time occupied by these data payloads. An advantageous result of this is that the optimally matched antenna system is available for on-body communications and off-body communications respectively, collisions between data payloads on the radio channel being prevented within the network, and the throughput of data thus being increased and, at the same time, energy consumption being reduced for the transceiver.
