Proposed is a method for transmitting data in a vehicle, and a driver-information device, where an output unit is connected to processing devices by a data bus. A method for operating a navigational system having a digital map base which is a reproduction of real geographical regions and contains data on geographical elements, as well as a device which retrieves and processes data, such as an operating device having a display unit. Method for operating a navigational system

The method calculates by means of a navigation device an optimized route to a final destination, which is constrained to pass through at least one transition region of a real road network. Each transition region corresponds to a surface region of a stored digital map, which represents the road network with segments having resistances and nodes. The location and extent of each surface region are defined by a user of the navigation device. Relevant segments are stored in a via area list (VAL) in the navigation device. Route segments are optimized in the navigation device by a route-searching algorithm and are stored in route tables. Method and device for determining a route from a starting location to a final destination

The invention relates to a method for operating a navigation system comprising a digital map base, which is a representation of actual geographical areas and which contains data of geographical elements. The navigation-system also comprises a unit, which retrieves and processes the data, such as an operating unit provided with a display device. The data in the digital map base is combined in the form of geographically defined page frames. When requesting a page frame from the digital map base, data of geographical elements which extend beyond the edge of the page frame is transferred in such a manner that data pertaining to these geographical elements located outside of the requested page frame is also compiled and transferred.

Method for operating a navigation system

A method, operating unit, navigation system and interface for displaying a predetermined section of a digital map database, which represents a real geographic area, on a display device are described. The digital map database contains data representing various geographic elements. An attribute, which defines a display priority, is assigned to each geographic element. An evaluation is then performed to determine whether or not particular geographic elements in the predetermined section to be displayed should or should not be visible on the display device. A particular geographic element is made visible on the display device when it is located in the predetermined section and when its display-priority-determining attribute satisfies certain selection criteria or selection rules. This method prevents display of too many geographic elements, which would otherwise make the display congested thus producing an unclear display.

Method and navigation system for display of sections of a digital map data base as well as an improved operating unit and interface for same

In the method of determining a route from a starting point to a destination in a route network represented by a group of straight edges and nodes in a memory, especially a road network, each straight edge is correlated with a respective path resistance and the route is defined as a successive sequence of edges. The successive sequence of edges is determined by minimizing the sum of all path resistances. Each edge is also associated with at least one traffic-way-type path resistance value. The at least one traffic-way-type resistance value is first minimized during determination of a portion of the route from one edge to a following edge and only in the case that the traffic-way-type resistance value does not increase or decrease from one edge to the next is a minimization of the resistance performed for that portion of the route.
