Disclosed is a zinc-oxide containing sol comprising a core of cerium dioxide sol the surface of which particles is coated with zinc oxide; and the method of making the sol. The sol has a mean particle size of less than 50 nm, is characterized as being clear and transparent and is stabilized to resist agglomeration and particle size increase. An essential part of the disclosed invention is the addition of a positive charged oxide such as yttrium oxide to effect the stabilization before significant changes in transparency, agglomeration and/or particle size increase can occur.

Zinc oxide sol and method of making

Disclosed is a novel system for providing transparent electrically conductive tin oxide coatings on substrates, which system includes the steps of doping a tin oxide colloid stabilized with ammonium ions with antimony, coating the resulting mixture onto the substrate to be provided with the electrically conductive coating, and then drying or baking for a time and at a temperature sufficient to lower the sheet resistance of the coating to the desired level.

Electrically conductive transparent doped tin oxide films

Disclosed is a novel system for providing transparent electrically conductive tin oxide coatings on substrates, which system includes the steps of doping a tin oxide colloid stabilized with ammonium ions with antimony, coating the resulting mixture onto the substrate to be provided with the electrically conductive coating, and then drying or baking for a time and at a temperature to lower the sheet resistance of the coating to the desired level. In an alternate embodiment, the coating is dried to lower the sheet resistance to provide an anti-static coating.

Disclosed is a method for preparing aqueous negatively charged tin oxide sols having substantially uniform particle size no greater than about 50 nm and preferably from about 5 to about 20 nm, the sols being characterized as being substantially free of any other reagents which may adversely affect contemplated usage as a catalyst.

Method for preparing tin oxide sols and sols prepared thereby

Dispersions of spherical particles of organic materials are obtained by continuously precipitating the organic material from solution in a volatile water miscible solvent which contains at least ten percent by weight water, by adding water containing a dispersing agent. Solvent is rapidly removed before recrystallization can take place thereby allowing the precipitated particles to be recovered in a spherical habit rather than in the normal crystal habit for the material.

Process for making dispersions comprising spherical particles

Colloidally stable dispersions of a spectral sensitizing dye are formed directly in water without the use of an organic solvent. The process of the invention involves mixing the dye particles with water to form a slurry and then homogenizing or milling the slurry at an elevated temperature in the presence of a surfactant to form finely divided particles uniformly dispersed in the water.
