Combined rose and lever handle

A kit for converting a key-in-knob lockset to a lever handle operated lock employs the existing cylindrical lock and its associated latch bolt. The conversion apparatus employs a lever handle having a non-circular shank portion which is received in, and thus drives, a resiliently biased coupling device which is interpositioned between the handle and a rose housing affixed to the door. The existing cylindrical lock is supported within the lever handle shank portion by a dummy bible member in such a manner as to prevent forces resulting from operation of the lever handle from damaging the cylindrical lock.

A cylinder lock system employing a key having a projection extending from each opposing parallel edge of the key blade, the projections respectively operating an auxiliary pin tumbler stack and cooperating with a groove in the lock shell to retain the key in the lock after plug rotation from the key insertion position. The key retaining projection also cooperates with the driver pin of the auxiliary pin tumbler stack to prevent key trapping, i.e., the presence and size of the retaining projections keeps the auxiliary driver pin from engaging the keyway. The cooperation between the key retaining projection and the auxiliary driver pin is permitted by providing the lock with two shear lines, located on different diameters, which are simultaneously operable by a single key.

Key unlocking and retaining method and apparatus

A cylinder lock system employs a key which has a pair of projections extending from opposing parallel edges of the key blade. The keyway of the lock has an enlarged slot portion for receiving the projections upon insertion of the key. One of the projections cams pins of an auxiliary pin stack to present a shear line between the pins to permit rotation of the key plug to an unlocked mode. The other projection is received in a groove formed in the shell and is engageable against a surface of the groove upon rotation of the key to retain the key within the keyway.

A latch actuator mechanism (10) having a housing (18) in which is mounted a lever (40 ) that engages a carrier member (54) that surrounds a spindle (66). The spindle includes a radial projection (74) that engages a recess (60) in the carrier member (54) such that as the lever (40) is pivoted, it linearly displaces the carrier member which in turn bears upon the projection (74) to rotate the spindle (66). The spindle is connected to a latch (16) that extends transversely to the axis of the spindle and is actuated for engagement and disengagement to strike (82). The preferred latch mechanism includes an elongated latch case (88) mounted transversely on the spindle (66), the latch having a retractor member (96) mounted for linear displacement longitudinally within the case and a latch bolt head (114) adapted for a projected and a withdrawn position relative to the case. An annular, semi-circular hub (92) is affixed to the spindle within the case for converting the rotational motion of the spindle into a linear displacement of the retractor member, whereby the bolt head may be drawn to its retracted position. A spring member (112) interposed between the forward portion of the retractor member and the hub provides a forward bias on the retractor member such that upon release of the latch actuating force on the spindle, the retractor and bolt head will automatically return to the forward, or engaged position.

A compact cylinder lock operated by a key having smooth edges and detents in opposed side faces. The locking mechanism includes series connected pin tumblers and side bars which are resiliently biased. A resiliently biased locking bar having locking lugs extending therefrom cooperates with the side bars and lock housing; the locking bar moving out of engagement with the housing and into gates in the side bars when the side bars are moved a sufficient distance by the pin tumblers. The side bars are provided with false gates which engage the lugs on the locking bar to prevent unauthorized opening of the lock.

A guard for protecting the cylinder of a door lock from removal comprises a substantially rectangular plate having a first portion including a section adapted to fit over the lock cylinder and a second portion offset from the first portion, the second portion traversing the gap between the door and the doorjamb for protecting the bolt.

The locking mechanism includes series connected pin tumblers and side bars which are resiliently biased. A resiliently biased fence cooperates with the side bars and lock housing; the fence moving out of engagement with the housing and into gates in the side bars when the side bars are moved a sufficient distance by the pin tumblers.

Side-bar lock

A key operated dead bolt lock includes one or a pair of standard threaded mortise cylinders. The lock further includes set screws, inaccessible from either side of a door in which the lock is installed, which prevent rotation of the cylinders. The cylinders hold cylinder collars in place to prevent access to the bolt from the side.
