The present invention is a safety braking system for a hand-pushed rollator, which allows the user to engage different operation modes: a park mode, a walk mode, and a brake mode. The present invention comprises a wheel mechanism, a cable assembly, and a handlebar mechanism. The wheel mechanism allows a wheel to rotate during walk mode, to engage the wheel with a parking brake during park mode, and to engage the wheel with a friction brake during brake mode. The wheel mechanism pivots the parking brake and the friction brake on a lever in order to switch between the different operation modes. The handlebar mechanism allows the user to shift between the different operation modes and is engaged to the wheel mechanism through the cable assembly. The handlebar mechanism uses two levers that are pushed and pulled by the user in order to shift between the different operation modes.

Safety braking system for a hand-pushed rollator

An annular actuator for moving a member axially to couple and un couple a drive member with a driven member of a vehicle drive train. The actuator encircles the drive and driven member. The actuator has a housing to which a diaphragm is mounted. A spring biases the diaphragm to move in one axial direction and withdrawal of air forces the diaphragm to move in the opposite axial direction. A shifting fork coupled to the diaphragm moves a clutch ring in the one axial direction to be coupled with only one of the drive and driven members and is coupled with both the drive and driven members when moved in the opposite direction. The actuator defines a sealed chamber that is totally non-rotatable with relative movement occurring between the shifting fork and the clutch ring.

Pneumatic annular actuator

A bi-directional overrunning pawl-type clutch having a driving member mounted for power rotation, a driven member mounted for rotation adjacent the driving member, with each of the driving and driven members having pawl engaging shoulders, and a plurality of rigid pawls interposed between the driving and driven members. A control element is mounted for shifting movement between the driving and driven members to control the position of the pawls which are yieldably biased toward positions of engagement extending between the driving and driven members to produce driving engagement therebetween. The control element is shiftable to various positions to permit driving and overrunning in one direction or driving and overrunning in the opposite direction dependent upon the direction of rotation of the driving member.

Overrunning pawl clutch

A spindle nut and a locking device are disclosed for securing the nut on a spindle in a non-rotative position relative to the spindle. The assembly comprises the spindle nut, an antirotation spring and a spring backup plate mounted on the spindle. The antirotation spring and spring backup plate may be formed as a single unit.

Nut and locking device

A spindle nut and a locking device for securing the nut in a rotative position on a spindle. An anti-rotation spring and a back up plate are mounted on the spindle in a non-rotative manner with the back up plate in abutment with the bearings that rotatively mount the hub to the spindle. The back up plate has multiple grooves aligned with and arranged to receive multiple resilient tabs on the periphery of the anti-rotation spring. The tabs of the anti-rotation spring are formed to project axially from the spring. A flange of the nut has multiple slots around its periphery that are sized to receive a tab of the anti-rotation spring. A tool having extending ears that fit in the slots of the nut is utilized to install the nut on the spindle. The extending ears prevent the tabs of the spring from entering a slot of the nut until the tool is removed. As the nut is rotated by the tool, the nut abuts the anti-rotation spring. The extending ears and the face of the flange in combination force the radial tabs of the spring further into the grooves of the back up plate. When the nut is torqued to the desired level, the tool is removed allowing a tab of the spring to enter a slot of the nut due to its resiliency to lock the nut in a rotative position. Should a tab of the spring not be in alignment with a slot of the nut, the nut need only rotate a few degrees to place one of the slots of the nut in alignment with a tab of the spring.
