Resistance mechanism and method for an exercise cycle includes an adjusting bracket having magnets mounted on its inner surface and spaced from a flywheel, an adjustment shaft having a threaded rod rotatably disposed through a tubular sleeve disposed on a frame and above the adjustment bracket, a threaded member mounted on the adjustment bracket and connected the threaded rod, and a linking assembly mounting the adjustment bracket to the frame, and including a first member, a first linking member, a first sensor, and a second sensor. The first sensor is disposed on the first member adjacent to the first end of the first linking member, a second sensor is disposed on the first linking member adjacent to the first sensor. A relative position of the first sensor and the second sensor is changed with respect to the corresponding movements of the adjusting bracket.

Braking system and method for exercise equipment

An exercise machine includes a processor, a first display, a deck, and a belt rotatable about the deck. The machine also includes a sensor operably connected to the processor and configured to detect a first performance parameter of a first user running on the belt of the exercise machine. The processor is configured to receive information indicative of a second performance parameter of a second user, the second performance parameter being detected at an additional exercise machine during display of the at least part of the exercise class on a display associated with the additional exercise machine. The processor is also configured to cause the second performance parameter to be displayed on the first display together with the first performance parameter.

A method includes receiving a video input, receiving an indication of a first segment type corresponding to a first workout activity being performed in the video input, and generating a segmented timeline with the processor, the segmented timeline including a plurality of segments, and at least one segment of the plurality of segments corresponding to the first workout activity. The method further includes generating a user interface with the processor, the user interface including the segmented timeline displayed together with at least part of the video input. The method also includes providing the user interface to a plurality of exercise machines via a network.

A method includes receiving, with a processor in communication with a first exercise machine, a first request for an exercise class, the first request being provided by a first user of the first exercise machine. The method also includes providing a video file associated with the exercise class to the first exercise machine, providing a notification to a second user indicating that the first user has chosen to participate in the exercise class, and receiving a second request for the exercise class provided by the second user. The method further includes providing the video file to a second exercise machine of the second user via the network. In such a method, display of the video file via a display of the second exercise machine is synchronized with display of the video file via a display of the first exercise machine.

Coordinating workouts across remote exercise machines

A method for displaying archived exercise classes comprising displaying information about archived exercise classes that can be accessed by a first user via a computer network on a display screen at a first location, wherein the first user can select among a plurality of archived classes, outputting digital video and audio content comprising the selected archived class, detecting a performance parameter for the first user at a particular point in the selected class, displaying the performance parameter on the display screen, and displaying performance parameters from a second user at a second location on the display screen such that at least one of the performance parameters from the first user and at least one of the performance parameters from the second user at the same point in the class are presented for comparison.

A method for displaying live and archived cycling classes comprising displaying information about cycling classes that can be accessed by a first user using a first stationary bike via a digital communication network on a display screen at a first location, whereby the first user can select either a live cycling class or select among a plurality of archived cycling classes, outputting digital video and audio content comprising the selected cycling class, detecting performance parameters from the first stationary bike at a particular point in the selected class, displaying at least one of the performance parameters on the display screen, and displaying performance parameters from a second stationary bike at a second location on the display screen such that at least one of the performance parameters from the first stationary bike and at least one of the performance parameters from the second stationary bike at the same point in the class are presented for comparison.

A method for providing live and archived cycling classes to remote users comprising providing information about available live and archived cycling classes that can be accessed via a digital communication network by a first user using a first stationary bike at a first remote location for display at the first remote location via an interface that includes a display screen, whereby the first user can select either a live cycling class or select among a plurality of archived cycling classes to be displayed on the display screen, receiving from the first user a selection of one of the available live or archived cycling classes for display on the display screen at the first remote location, and providing digital video and audio content comprising the selected cycling class to a computer at the first remote location for display to the first user.

A method for providing cycling classes to remote users comprising providing information about available cycling classes that can be accessed via a digital communication network by a user at a remote location for display at the remote location, receiving from the user a selection of one of the available cycling classes for display at the remote location, and sending digital video and audio content comprising the selected cycling class from a server to a computer associated with a stationary bike at the remote location for display to the user on a display screen associated with the stationary bike. In various exemplary embodiments, the digital and audio content sent to the computer associated with the stationary bike is streamed for display to the user in substantially in real-time. In various exemplary embodiments, the digital and audio content sent to the computer associated with the stationary bike is archived content provided from a database.

Defects in wooden boards, such as knots, knotholes or cracks, are repaired by forming an opening in the board at the site of the defect and forming a plug that fills the opening. In some forms of the invention the opening has a shape which interlocks the plug to the board. In another form of the invention, the plug is held in place by a transversely extending resilient member that is embedded in the plug and which is under tension which causes edge portions of the member to bite into or bear against the adjacent wood. Forming the opening includes cutting away bark encasement tissue that may adjoin the defect which encasement can cause a discoloration upon painting of the board and may eventually loosen. In some forms of the invention, cracks are repaired by making plural saw cuts along a crack to form the opening with the saw having a different angling relative to the board during each saw cut. In another form of the invention, the opening and plug extend between opposite surfaces of the board and have a width which increases at a plurality of spaced apart locations within the board and decreases at a plurality of alternate locations.
