A method and system providing optional use of human search guides to allow a user to select between a human guide assisted search and an automated search. The user is provided with an option of submitting a query requesting assistance of one or more human guides, initiating a search without requesting assistance from human guide(s) using automated results, or a combination of both.

A sheet transport system having a sheet gripper which includes at least one resilient member used to bias an upper gripping portion toward a lower gripping portion so as to releasably secure the leading edge of a sheet therebetween. The resilient member includes a stop which functions to register the sheet within the sheet gripper.

Sheet transport system with improved gripping and registration mechanism

A low-cost finisher that creates stapled books includes a tray that is tilted at an acute angle backward and away from the direction of incoming copy sheets. Copy sheets are fed into and slide down the copy sheet support surface of the tray and against a rear registration wall of the tray under the influence of tampers. Another tamper forces the copy sheets against a side registration guide of the tray to align them in the head of a stapler. Stapled books are transported out of the tray to a catch tray.

Small inexpensive finisher

An apparatus in which sheets are sorted in selected ones of a plurality of movable trays shiftable relative to one another. One edge of the trays is supported with the remaining edges thereof being unsupported. Successive trays move from one side of a sheet inlet region to the other side thereof with the trays shifting relative to one another to provide wide entry regions at the sheet inlet region and at a sheet securing region.

Sorting apparatus

A dual mode document handling apparatus in which either individual cut sheet documents or computer-form web documents are advanced to an exposure station of a reproducing machine. Successive cut sheet documents are advanced in a first direction to the exposure station. Successive incremental lengths of a computer form web document are moved to the exposure station in a second direction substantially normal to the first direction. The machine operator may select either computer-form web document feeding or cut sheet document feeding.

Dual mode document handling apparatus

To minimize or eliminate a blurred image in xerographic reproduction prior to transfer, a developed image on a charged photoreceptor is first exposed to light to at least substantially discharge the background around the image and to reduce the charge on the photoreceptor holding the image on the photoreceptor, and then a charge opposite to the polarity of the charged photoreceptor is deposited onto the image and photoreceptor. This produces a very stable image for transfer since a very strong holding force is produced to hold the image in place as the image enters a transfer station.

Sky seat safety descent apparatus

A stacked plurality of snap rings adhesibly retained by varnish coating, or other bonding method applied to the rings. Internal or external circular or C-shaped snap rings typically have retainer ring holes and in this invention the holes in adjacent rings in the stack are misaligned. Snap ring pliers or automated equipment can be inserted into the retainer ring holes of the endmost snap ring fastened at the top of the stack, with the tips of the pins penetrating only through the holes in the topmost ring, due to their misalignment, with the topmost ring being removed by movement of the pins relative to each other, thereby facilitating efficient dispensing of one snap ring at a time.
