An overbased, sulfurized salt of at least one alkylated hydroxyaromatic compound, wherein the alkyl substituent of the hydroxyaromatic compound is a residue of at least one isomerized olefin having from about 15 to about 99 wt. % branching is disclosed. The overbased, sulfurized salt of at least one alkylated hydroxyaromatic compound is produced by the process comprising: (a) alkylating at least one hydroxyaromatic compound with at least one isomerized olefin having from about 15 to about 99 wt. % branching obtained by isomerizing at least one normal alpha olefin having from about 10 to about 40 carbon atoms, to provide at least one alkylated hydroxyaromatic compound; (b) neutralizing and sulfurizing the alkylated hydroxyaromatic compound in any order to provide at least one neutralized, sulfurized alkylated hydroxyaromatic compound; and (c) overbasing the at least one neutralized, sulfurized alkylated hydroxyaromatic compound.

Disclosed are liquid alkylphenyl poly(oxypropylene) aminocarbamates which do not form a wax when cooled to -40.degree. C. in a 50 weight percent solution with toluene, said aminocarbamates having at least one basic nitrogen and an average molecular weight of about 600 to 6,000 and wherein the alkyl group is substantially straight-chain of from 25 to 50 carbon atoms. Also disclosed are fuel compositions and concentrates as well as lubricating oil compositions and concentrates containing said alkylphenyl poly(oxypropylene) aminocarbamates.

Disclosed is a fuel composition comprising a hydrocarbon boiling in the gasoline or diesel range and from about 30 to about 5,000 parts per million of an alkylphenyl poly(oxypropylene) aminocarbamate having at least one basic nitrogen and an average molecular weight of about 600 to 6,000 and wherein the alkyl group is substantially straight-chain of at least 15 carbon atoms. The instant invention is based on the discovery that use of the unique hydrocarbyl group, i.e., an alkylphenyl group wherein the alkyl group is derived from a substantially straight-chain alkyl group of at least 15 carbon atoms imparts to the alkylphenyl poly(oxypropylene) aminocarbamate not only lubricating oil compatibility but also an unexpected decrease in crankcase deposits.

The instant invention is based on the discovery that use of the unique hydrocarbyl gorup, i.e., an alkylphenyl group wherein the alkyl group contains at least 40 carbon atoms provides for improved lubricating oil compatibility.

Disclosed herein are additives which are useful as dispersants and detergents in lubricating oils and fuels. In particular, this invention is directed toward polyamino alkenyl or alkyl succinimides wherein one or more of the amino nitrogens of the succinimide is substituted with ##STR1## wherein R.sub.4 is hydrocarbyl of from 1 to 30 carbon atoms; R.sub.5 is hydrocarbyl of from 2 to 30 carbon atoms or --R.sub.6 --(OR.sub.6).sub.p -- wherein R.sub.6 is alkylene of 2 to 5 carbon atoms and p is an integer from 1 to 100; and m is an integer of from 0 to 1.

Lubricating oil compositions containing modified succinimides (V)

Disclosed are additives which are useful as dispersants in marine crankcase oils, hydraulic oils, and lubricating oils. In particular, disclosed are polyamino alkenyl or alkyl succinimides modified by reaction with a compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.4 is selected from the group consisting of a divalent hydrocarbyl group of from 2 to 30 carbon atoms with the proviso that the hydrocarbyl carbon atom bound to one ##STR2## group is not also bound to the other ##STR3## group and --R.sub.5 --OR.sub.5 --.sub.p wherein R.sub.5 is alkylene of from 2 to 5 carbon atoms and p is an integer of from 1 to 100; X is selected from the group consisting of bromo, chloro and --OR.sub.6 wherein R.sub.6 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, phenyl and phenyl substituted with 1 to 2 substituents selected from the group consisting of chloro, bromo, nitro, alkyl of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms and trifluoromethyl; and m is independently an integer of from 0 to 1.
