Electrical apparatus includes electrical coil means formed of multiple turns of enamel-covered electrical wire axially mounted on a core of magnetic material in electromagnetic energy coupling relationship therewith, and a relatively flat flexible electrical cable containing a plurality of spaced parallel conductors extending between the cable ends contains a loop shaped portion extending about an axis of said core over an arcuate distance greater than 180 degrees. An improved inductive device such as a transformer of the type containing a closed magnetic core, typically formed of magnetic laminations, with at least one coil-receiving core window and an electrical coil winding mounted on a core leg fitting through the core window, said coil being of a multilayer precision wound bobbinless construction in which the coil side to which a winding start lead extends faces an adjacent core leg, the improvement therein wherein the first turn of the first layer of the coil winding is interleaved between two turns of an overlying layer of winding turns and wherein the last turn of said first layer is also interleaved between two other turns of said overlying layer, whereby the spacing between the coil and magnetic iron core elements is increased to enhance electrical insulation. A novel expandable arbor of the type containing two coupled arbor blocks each containing two longitudinally extending edges, each said edge having a plurality of wire receiving grooves extending transverse the edge between the ends of the arbor block and which in section view defines a sawtooth-like series of peaks and valleys, wherein the bottom of the first groove is located a distance from one said arbor end equal to the wire diameter and the first peak adjoins the arbor end and is a height greater than the other peaks for providing a slide surface into the first groove and the bottom of the last groove is located a distance from the other arbor end equal to a wire diameter.

A power supply for a microwave magnetron includes a transformer having a secondary winding, a capacitor connected to one end of the winding, a magnetron connected in between the remaining end of the capacitor and the winding so as to form a first unidirectional current conducting path capable of conducting current in one direction and a second circuit connected in shunt of the magnetron having unidirectional current conduction characteristics and being switchable to an On or Off condition, said second circuit being electrically poled opposite to the polarity of the magnetron and means for controlling the switching of the second circuit to its current conducting condition as a function of the magnitude of current through the magnetron.

Power controller for microwave magnetron

A microwave magnetron operating circuit includes a high leakage reactance transformer having a secondary winding a capacitor connected in series with the secondary winding and means connecting the series combination of capacitor and secondary winding across heater cathode and anode terminals of a magnetron. A controlled semi-conductor switch such as a triac is connected electrically in shunt of the magnetron. Control means are provided to operate the triac to its current conducting state so as to conduct current in shunt of the magnetron. The control means includes a positionable control member, accessible to the user, for varying the time at which the controlled semi-conductor device is placed in its electrically conductive state so as to permit the user to adjust or set the power supplied to the magnetron to various different power levels.

In a microwave energy generating system, a combination of a magnetron which generates microwave energy and an inverter which converts DC voltage to high frequency AC voltage are employed. The magnetron includes a heater-cathode and an anode. The inverter includes a transformer having a gapped ferrite core, a center tapped primary winding which divides the primary into two portions, and at least a first high voltage secondary winding and a second low voltage secondary winding for the magnetron heater, and means for switching current through each winding half alternately at a periodic high frequency rate, substantially above 60 Hz., to produce a high frequency magnetic field in said ferrite core, and means, including inductor means, are provided for providing DC current into said primary winding at said center tap. High frequency high voltage AC from the first secondary is rectified and coupled to the magnetron and high frequency low voltage AC is coupled from the second secondary to the magnetron heater to enable the magnetron to generate microwave energy. The pulsing/nature of the high voltage applied to the magnetron is believed to avoid 'mismoding' of the magnetron and a need for a separate heater transformer is avoided. In a further aspect of the invention, the DC applied to the primary winding is obtained from an AC source and rectifier combination.
