A device for analyzing and treating tonal imperfections on human skin. The device, or apparatus has an applicator comprising a head and one or more nozzles, preferably the nozzles are arranged in an array. The apparatus further has a reservoir comprising a skin treatment composition, a sensor, and a CPU. The sensor takes an image of at least 10 &#x3bc;mof skin. The CPU analyzes the image to calculate a localized L value of individual pixels or group of pixels. The CPU then compares the local L value to a background L value to identify one or more skin deviations, and wherein the sensor is in wireless communication with the CPU, and wherein the CPU is adjacent the sensor or is remotely located. Further, the sensor may be enclosed within an apparatus handle and the CPU is either within the handle or external to the handle. In another embodiment of this invention, there are two or more CPUs and the sensor can be in wireless communication with none, one or more than one CPU.

Apparatus and methods for modifying keratinous surfaces

A method for maintaining a fluidic dispensing device includes providing a fluidic dispensing device having a fluid reservoir containing fluid, the fluid reservoir being defined in part by a base wall, and having a stir bar located in the fluid reservoir adjacent to the base wall, and having a fluid ejection chip having a fluid ejection direction; positioning the fluidic dispensing device at a predetermined orientation, wherein the fluid ejection direction is oriented in a range of upward vertical, plus or minus 90 degrees; and rotating the stir bar in a first rotational direction starting with a first rotational speed and increasing rotational velocity from the first rotational speed to a second rotational speed.

Method of maintaining a fluidic dispensing device

An apparatus and method for depositing a particulate containing composition onto mammalian skin such that when the particles contact the mammalian skin they have a momentum defined by &#x3c1;vr, which is within the range of about 0.1 kg/ms&#x2264;&#x3c1;vr&#x2264;about 12.0 kg/ms. The particles can be in the range of from about 10 nanometers to about 10 micrometers, in size. And the particles may be selected from the group consisting of titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, iron oxide, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, polycarbonate, polyvinyl chloride, glass, silica and mixtures thereof. The particles are imbedded below the first layer of dead skin cells in the stratum corneum but they do not pass all the way through the stratum corneum into the living cells of the epidermis or dermis layers of the skin.

A fluidic dispensing device includes a housing having a chamber that defines an interior space, and has an inlet port and an outlet port. A flow control portion has a flow separator feature. The flow separator feature is positioned adjacent the inlet port. A stir bar is located in the chamber, has a rotational axis, and has a plurality of paddles, with each paddle having a free end tip. The stir bar has a stir bar radius from the rotational axis to the free end tip. A guide portion confines the stir bar in a predetermined portion of the interior space of the chamber. A ratio of the stir bar radius and a clearance distance between the free end tip and the flow control portion is 5:2 to 5:0.025.

One or more reflectance modifying agent (RMA) such as a pigmented cosmetic agent is applied selectively and precisely with a controlled spray to human skin according to local skin reflectance or texture attributes. One embodiment uses digital control based on the analysis of camera images. Another embodiment, utilizes a calibrated scanning device comprising a plurality of LEDs and photo diode sensors to correct reflectance readings to compensate for device distance and orientation relative to the skin. Ranges of desired RMA application parameters of high luminance RMA, selectively applied to middle spatial frequency features, at low opacity or application density are each significantly different from conventional cosmetic practice. The ranges are complementary and the use of all three techniques in combination provides a surprisingly effective result which preserves natural beauty while applying a minimum amount of cosmetic agent.

Apparatus and method for the precision application of cosmetics

A cartridge assembly for modifying a treating surface, having a body that defines a reservoir that has a standpipe. The reservoir stores a treatment composition. The body comprises a reservoir wall and a die wall that collectively define a reservoir volume. The standpipe is defined by a standpipe wall that extends into the reservoir from a standpipe base, wherein the standpipe base comprises a portion of the die wall. The standpipe base and the standpipe wall collectively define a standpipe volume. The ratio of the reservoir volume to the standpipe volume is from about 50:1 to about 3:1, preferably from about 20:1 to about 4:1, and more preferably about 8:1. Further, the ratio of the surface area of the die wall to the standpipe base is from about 1.1:1 to about 3:1.

Cartridges for use in an apparatus for modifying keratinous surfaces

A cartridge assembly for modifying a surface. The cartridge assembly has a body and a base, the body defines a reservoir having a standpipe. The reservoir contains a treatment composition pressure element. Between the treatment composition pressure element and the standpipe is the head space, and within the head space there is a treatment composition dispersing device. The cartridge assembly can be used in a device for analyzing and treating tonal imperfections on human skin. The device, or apparatus has an applicator comprising a head and one or more nozzles, preferably the nozzles are arranged in an array and are associated with the cartridge assembly for dispensing a treatment composition therefrom.
