Flame retardant fibers, yarns, and fabrics made therefrom

Disclosed are technical fibers and yarns made with partially aromatic polyamides and a fiber having vapor phase action such as an FR cellulosic fiber. Fabrics made from such fibers and yarns demonstrate superior flame retardancy over traditional flame retardant nylon 6,6 fabrics. Further, the disclosed fibers and yarns, when blended with other flame retardant fibers, do not demonstrate the dangerous 'scaffolding effect' common with flame retardant nylon 6,6 blended fabrics.

Flame resistant yarns and fabrics including partially aromatic polyamide fiber and other flame resistant fibers

The present invention concerns polyester fabric that is employed in airbags. In particular, the polyester fabric has improved resistance to edge combing&#x2014;the relative tendency of a fabric to pull apart under seam stress or similar action such as inflation of inflatable restraints. Further, the polyester fabric of the invention must have an edge comb resistance of greater than about 350 Newtons at room temperature (20&#xb0; C.) and greater than 250 Newtons at 90&#xb0; C. The polyester fabric of the invention has an acrylic polymer or copolymer finish, or a mixture of acrylic and non-acrylic polymers. The finish is applied from about 1 to about 4 wt. % nominal solids add-on of said fabric.

Edgecomb resistance polyester

A polyester plain weave fabric construction wherein said fabric has a basis weight of between 150 to 300 g/mwith tongue tear strength equal to or better than nylon fabrics of the same construction and weight. The present invention relates to both coated and uncoated polyester filament woven fabric. The uncoated fabric is useful for industrial purposes wherein the fabric has a warp tongue tear resistance of at least 0.75 N/g/m, when the fabric basis weight is between 150 to 300 g/mThe preferred uncoated polyester filament yarn has a linear density of between about 200 to about 800 dtex, a tenacity of at least 65 cN/tex, a tensile index of at least 350. The fabrics can be coated with chloroprene, neoprene, polyurethane, silicone or other organic coatings to reduce air permeability. The fabric of the present invention may also be constructed with the warp and/or filling yarn having an aspect ratio between 1.2 and 6.

Polyester filament woven fabric for air bags

The present invention relates to a woven polyester fabric for use in airbags. The present invention includes a woven fabric using a polyester filament yarn, wherein the polyester filament yarn has a tenacity of about 65 cN/tex or greater and an Instantaneous Thermal Creep (ITC) at 100&#xb0; C. of about 0.5% or less. Additional embodiments of the present invention include an airbag made from the woven polyester fabric. Woven fabrics of the present invention can reduce the extent of seam combing during a hot module deployment of an airbag.
