An emergency exit door lock system configured to cooperate with a door hinged in a door frame for sensing when a person attempts to open the door, and for allowing the door to open after a subsequent delay. The system comprises an electromagnet affixable to a door frame for electromagnetically attracting an armature resiliently affixed at a variable armature separation distance to an armature mounting device, the device being affixable to the door. A proximity sensor including an analog Hall Effect device is mountable to the frame for detecting movement of the door away from a closed position. A controller, such as a micro-controller, receives a signal from the sensor and causes an alarm as a function of the signal. The signal is indicative of the armature separation distance, the controller being calibrate-able to provide a door alarm signal and door opening signal at any desired value of the armature separation distance.

Electromagnetic lock having distance-sensing monitoring system

A device for transferring electrical power between a frame and a closable member such as a door includes a first housing and face plate disposed in an opening in the frame and a second housing and face plate disposed in an opening in the closable member edge. The openings are positioned so that when the closable member is closed the openings are aligned. A hollow elbow assembly is rotatably disposed and secured in each hole. A tube having a pivot guide at each end is rotatably and axially slidable in each elbow assembly. A slot in each elbow assembly allows the tube to pivot. A wire bundle in the tube is connectable to wire leads. Boots may be supplied around the tube/elbow assemblies' junctions to exclude water. Thus, the wire bundle is fully contained within a protective, articulated, armored sheath to prevent wear, chafing, breakage, and vandalism.

Apparatus for transferring electric power between a closable member and a frame

A vertical door locking system includes a door lock with a deadbolt that moves horizontally, a striker with an upward facing strike opening that vertically receives the deadbolt and a lock controller. The striker includes an electrically operated catch to engage and release the deadbolt. The door lock and striker are mounted opposite each other, one to the vertical door and the other to an adjacent fixed mounting point. The lock controller electrically operates the striker to release the deadbolt and allow it to move vertically out of engagement with the striker for primary access to a secure area and the door lock allows the deadbolt to be retracted horizontally away from the striker for secondary access. A remotely located control system optionally controls the lock controllers of multiple doors and a central office control system is optionally connected to multiple remotely located control systems.

Vertical door locking system

An electromagnetic door lock system, allowing emergency exiting of a building, including an armature mount allowing considerable outward movement of the door with respect to the door frame on which the electromagnet is mounted, whereby outward movement of the door initiates a time delay door release, and gives an increased reassurance that the door will open in an emergency, and allows for improved tamper resistance and reduced false alarms, as the distance the door opens out of the door frame in response to actuation of a panic bar from within is greater than that of conventional systems. A tamper resistant door position sensor includes redundant magnetic reed switches for sensing the position of the door and can include an additional reed switch for detecting when an external magnet is placed near the sensor in an attempt to tamper with the system.

Electromagnetic door lock system

A shear-type electromagnetic lock is disclosed whose armature can approach the electromagnet from any transverse direction, which can be mounted in any orientation with respect to gravity, and which does not require any door position sensing means. The armature includes a pair of standoffs in the form of conically projecting buttons affixed thereto, the buttons projecting from the plane of contact between the armature and the electromagnet. The buttons have a base angle of 60-80 degrees adjacent the armature, and an angle of 45 degrees distal from the armature, and terminate in a smoothly rounded point. The armature is mounted to a sub-plate via counteracting springs such that the armature 'floats' on the sub-plate, with the distance between the armature and the sub-plate being adjustable via adjusting screws. A matching electromagnet assembly for mounting to a door frame includes matching conical depressions positionally corresponding to the conical buttons such that the buttons seat into the depressions when the armature and electromagnet are properly aligned. The buttons and recesses are arranged in a staggered pattern.

Multi-directional self-aligning shear type electromagnetic lock

An impact resistant electromagnetic lock includes an electromagnet mounted on a door frame, a ferromagnetic strike plate, and an impact-absorbing assembly for mounting the strike plate to the door. The impact-absorbing assembly fits largely within the door, and includes both a plunger coupled to the strike plate and a spring. When an inertial force directed to forcing the door open such as a kick is directed against the door, the plunger compresses the spring. The resilience provided by the spring allows the door a limited amount of inertia-absorbing linear movement, thus greatly decreasing the maximum force experienced by the door and correspondingly increasing the ability of the door to withstand the inertial attack.

Impact resistant electromagnetic lock

A closure latch or bolt monitoring device having a housing mountable in a closure frame which housing receives a latch or bolt. A pivotal rocker plate is normally biased to a rest position in which a flange portion of the rocker engages a switch connectable to an alarm system. When a latch or bolt is extended into the housing, the rocker plate is pivoted causing it to disengage from the switch providing an indication to the alarm system that the bolt or latch is properly engaged in the closure. An alternate embodiment allows separate monitoring of two lock components such as a separate bolt and latch.
