When calibrating a transfer assist blade (TAB) in a printer, toner patches are formed on a photoreceptor belt in the printer at locations between sheets of paper. The TAB is partially deployed between paper sheets to pick up toner, and then deployed normally or with a delay to mark the back sides of the sheets. A processor evaluates distances between TAB touchdown and liftoff points and leading and trailing edges of the sheets, and calibrates the TAB to optimize the TAB timing. Additionally, test prints can be generated, each having slightly varied TAB calibration settings that are stored in a non-volatile memory (NVM) table. A user enters an identification number for a test print with the best calibration settings. The processor looks up calibration settings corresponding to the entered identification number and moves NVM settings from the table into operational locations in the system NVM to calibrate the printer.

Method to automate a transfer assist blade device timing adjustment

A digital printing system employing tandem marking engines for duplex printing utilizing a variable dwell time in the output sheet inverter of the first marking engine to provide correct positioning of the leading edge of the inverted sheet for arrival at the entrance of the second marking to avoid the seam in the photoreceptor.

Controlling sheet registration in a digital printing system

A correction algorithm may be applied for correcting misalignment of a radially-aligned array of sensors. Due to the tilt, signals from sensors that are further away from the media, may become slightly attenuated, while signals from sensors that are closer to the media are slightly increased. The error appears periodic and largely sinusoidal in nature around the array given the circular nature of the array of sensor elements. The algorithm determines the magnitude and phase of a sinusoidal function that best fits the wavelength data. In one embodiment, a discrete Fourier transform may be performed at the 'frequency' equivalent to one period around the array to determine the magnitude and phase estimate thereof. Then, a sinusoidal correction function may be generated using the magnitude and the phase in order to correct the reflectance data.

Correcting tilt-induced cyclic variations in signals from radially arrayed spectrophotometer sensors

Disclosed are embodiments of a modular printing system with one or more modules having one or more bypass paths and comprise a modular printing system with a module (e.g., a stacker or feeder module) having a main compartment and at least one additional compartment. Contained within the main compartment is a main sheet transport path and a functional component (e.g., a sheet stacking device or a sheet feeding device) connected to the main sheet transport path. Contained with the additional compartment is a bypass path. The bypass path allows sheets to be routed through the module in the event of a print media sheet jam in the main sheet transport path. Because the bypass path is contained within a separate compartment, the jam can be cleared from the main compartment without cycling down the printing system, thereby allowing for continued productivity.

A network controller has one or more subsystems including a monitoring system that monitors a plurality of communication paths to detect a presence of link pulses in one of the communication paths, a communication providing system that routs the available network signal to a first device, and a communication halting system that prevents the available network signal from being transmitted to one or more other devices. A network interface has a first circuit path routing a first network signal received at a first input of the network interface to a first device. Moreover, the network interface has a second circuit path routing a second network signal received at a second input of the network interface to a first output of the first network interface to be received at a first input of a second network interface.

An electrophotographic printing machine of the type having a latent image recorded on an imaging member wherein said latent image is developed and transferred to a media substrate during successive printing cycles of successive print jobs, including a charging device for producing a voltage potential on the media substrate to transfer the developed latent image to the media substrate, said charging device including a coronode member and shield; a first voltage supply for apply a shield voltage to said shield; a second voltage supply for applying a wire voltage to said coronode member; a voltage monitor for measuring the voltage on the shield, said voltage monitor periodically polling the voltage during a cycle of a print job and generating a voltage measured signal as a function thereof; controller, responsive to a media type of each media substrate and said voltage monitor, for adjusting said wire voltage to said coronode member in respect to said shield voltage to said shield to compensate for process impedance as said media substrate passes under said charging device to obtained desirable image transfer.
