A fluid management system including an inlet configured to receive pre-processed fluid is provided. The system includes a filtering apparatus configured to remove contaminants from the pre-processed fluid. The filtering apparatus includes a plate having a first opening. A first manifold pipe is disposed on the plate and includes one or more perforations and a second opening at least partially aligned with the first opening. A second manifold pipe is disposed on the plate and includes one or more perforations. Filter media is disposed between the first manifold pipe and the second manifold pipe and is configured to separate the contaminants from the pre-processed fluid. The system also includes an outlet coupled to the second manifold pipe to receive processed fluid from the filtering apparatus.

Systems and methods for stormwater management

A stormwater runoff treatment system that offers an economical means of achieving highly efficient, effective, and compact means of treating runoff through a unique method of flow restrictions, diversions, elevation differences and strategically located components to achieve a combination of treatment advantages.

Stormwater treatment system flow optimization

A runoff water vault may be divided into an input chamber which receives runoff water and a second chamber which also separates and stores buoyant and non-buoyant materials separated from the runoff water stream. While the separators in such systems remove particles of different densities than water quite well, they have difficulty in removing neutrally buoyant debris. Screens are added into the water flow stream to catch and remove particles of neutral buoyancy. The screens are mounted in a manner which permits lateral movement of the screen relative to the water flow, such as shaking and/or flexing. Screen movement imparts pressure differential across the screen perforations releasing debris trapped against the screen, so that the debris will fall into an entrainment area and allow increased flow through the screen. The screens may also include one or more turbulator fins for intersecting the water flow and transferring energy to the screen, imparting lateral movement to the screen.

Self cleaning debris screen for runoff water separation apparatus

Three flow paths within a single container are provided for the separation of contaminates, such as floating debris, heavy trash, lighter fluids and heavier fluids, from an effluent stream. A first flow path is provided for low flow conditions wherein the effluent stream pools in a first chamber within the container and the surface of the pooled fluid is drawn off, leaving heavy contaminates within the first chamber. The drawn fluid, with lighter and/or floating contaminates, enters a second chamber. The fluid is drawn from the second chamber below the surface level of the fluid, leaving the lighter and floating contaminates within the second chamber. In moderate flow conditions, a second flow path is established from the first chamber and out the container, bypassing the second chamber. Fluid for the second flow path is drawn from below the surface of the fluid in the first chamber to exclude light and floating contaminates. A third flow path is established when the first and second flow paths are insufficient to accommodate the effluent received by the container. The third flow path draws from the surface of the fluid in the first chamber and bypasses the second chamber in discharging from the container.

Apparatus to separate light fluids, heavy fluids, and/or sediment from a fluid stream

An input chamber receives runoff water to be cleaned. Part of the way up the chamber wall is a restricted outlet which feeds a system for cleaning the water. At a still higher elevation another opening allows runoff water to flow to another cleaning system. Near the top of the chamber is an outlet pipe. A vertical baffle in front of the outlet cleans water that flows under the baffle on its way to the outlet. When the incoming flow rate is very high, water passes over the baffle to the outlet.

Apparatus for separating a light fluid from a heavy one and/or removing sediment from a fluid stream

An input chamber receives runoff water to be cleaned. Part of the way up the chamber wall is a restricted outlet which feeds a system for cleaning the water. At a still higher elevation another opening allows runoff water to flow to an extended detention chamber. Near the top of the chamber is an outlet pipe. A vertical baffle in front of the outlet cleans water that flows under the baffle on its way to the outlet. When the incoming flow rate is very high, water passes over the baffle to the outlet.

Combination physical separator and filter device to remove contaminants from stormwater runoff

A large vault or tank receives the runoff water to be cleaned. There are one or more small tanks in the large tank (vault). Each small tank is inverted and receives water at its open lower end, from the large tank. The water entering the small tank rises, as the water level in the large tank rises, and flows upward through a filter. When the water level rises above the top of the filter it enters an outlet tube or pipe and then flows downwardly along the center-line of the filter. A float, a valve and a check valve may cause the system to function as a siphon and feed the filtered clean water to an outlet. Alternatively the siphoning effect will occur if the inside diameter of said outlet tube is small enough to form a partial vacuum.

System for feeding a liquid fluid through a filter

A system is provided for treating runoff water in which there is a separator and a filter for cleaning the water. A reservoir is provided to hold large quantities of water during prolonged rainstorms. The output of the reservoir is fed to the filter. The rate of flow from the reservoir to the filter is controlled and limited to flow rates at which the filter can efficiently clean the water.

Stormwater treatment train

The present invention filters runoff water containing oil and an emulsion of oil and water. A tank receives the inlet water and feeds it to a reservoir which in turn feeds the water to the cylindrical filter cells. The water passing through the filter cells is received by a manifold which feeds the clean water to an outlet. However, when the runoff water has a high rate of flow the reservoir soon overflows and the excess water flows directly to an outlet. The reservoir may be either above or below the filter cells. If above, the water entering the inlet flows downward to a reservoir which is perforated to provide water to the filter cells. If, however, the reservoir is below the filter cells it has a perforated top which feeds the filter cells. The water in the reservoir is under pressure. The filter cells may be cylindrical. They have an inner vertical cylindrical passageway surrounded by one or more cylindrical layers. One filtering media is in said inner passageway. Each cylindrical layer provides a different filtering media. In one form of the invention the filtering media in the inner passageway is a coarse media and the filtering media in the other cylindrical layer or layers is a finer media. Each layer of the filter bounded by a porous barrier. Surrounding, and spaced from, the outermost barrier is an outer wall. The space between the outermost barrier and the wall forms a drain for feeding the filtered liquid to an output.

Filtering system for runoff water

Apparatus for separating oil from water is provided. A container has a divider which divides the container into two tanks. These two tanks have three separate paths for the incoming run-off water, one path for a low rate of flow of the run-off water, one for an intermediate rate of flow of the water and one for a high rate of flow. The divider is a resilient plate which relies on its resilience to hold the plate in the container. The divider is a large vortex plate that divides the space in the tank. That space has a lower level than the lower end of the vortex plate. That space allows water to flow under the vortex plate to the part of the tank outside of the vortex plate. An inlet pipe feeds raw run-off water into the upper space. When water enters the container at a slow rate, it passes through a weir to an outlet. When the run-off fluid has an intermediate rate of flow more water enters the inlet tank than can pass through the small opening of the weir. Hence, the level of the fluid within the vortex plate will rise forcing clean water out of the lower end of the space within the vortex plate. This clean water will then flow to the outlet pipe. When the rate of flow of the incoming run-off water is very high, the water passes, over the vortex plate of the inlet tank, directly to the outlet. The vortex plate in the main separation tank improves the separation process in that tank. The fluid enters that tank in a space defined by the vortex plate. Clean water is fed from the main separation tank to the clean water outlet of the apparatus.

Apparatus for separating a light from a heavy fluid

The oil is separated from the rainwater that runs off of a parking lot or off of the pavement of a filling station. An inlet tank receives the runoff water. When the water is entering that tank at a very low rate, the surface water and/or oil in the inlet tank drains to a main separation tank where the oil floats on clean water. That clean water is fed to an outlet conduit that feeds unpolluted water to the city sewer or to a river. When the inlet flow increases to an intermediate rate, a pipe of inverted L-shape feeds clean water from the inlet tank to the outlet conduit. When the inlet fluid has a very large flow rate, as might occur during a heavy downpour of rain, the fluid level in the inlet tank rises to a level at which there is a direct overflow into the outlet conduit.
