A turbulator ( A- K) is provided for use in the heat exchange units ( ) of heat exchangers. The turbulator ( A- K) includes a sheet ( A, C) of material. The sheet ( A, C) includes a plurality of strand-like rows ( A, C) of alternating crests ( A, C) and valleys ( A, C). The crests ( A, C) and valleys ( A, C) in each row ( A, C) are offset with respect to the crests ( A, C) and valleys ( A, C) in any immediately adjacent row ( A, C). Each of the rows ( A, C) has an interface with any immediately adjacent row ( A, C). The interfaces are perforated so that valleys ( A, C) in each row ( A, C) are in fluid communication with immediately adjacent crests ( A, C) in any immediately adjacent row ( A, C) and crests ( A, C) in each row ( A, C) are in fluid communication with any immediately adjacent valleys ( A, C) in any immediately adjacent row ( A, C). In some preferred embodiments ( A, C, D, E, F, H, J, K), the plurality of rows ( A, C) are divided into at least two groups ( A, C, J; A, C, J) which together define a herringbone pattern of the crests ( A, C) and valleys ( A, C).

Angled turbulator for use in heat exchangers

External conduits for connection to a source of coolant for a donut oil cooler are eliminated in an oil cooler construction including a housing (32) having a base (64). Spaced coolant ports (96,98) are located in the base (64) and a filter mounting surface (68,82) is located on the housing (32) in spaced relation to the base (64). A heat exchange stack (34) is located within the housing (32) and has an oil inlet port (72) in the base (64) and an oil outlet port (76) in the filter mounting surface (68,82). A passage (50) extends through the housing (32) from the base (64) to the surface (68,82).

Captive flow donut oil cooler

Areas of potential oil stagnation in a donut oil cooler that lower heat transfer efficiency are avoided by locating closed fluid flow passages (100) for unfiltered oil to be directed to a filter (14) within spacers (102), (110), (130), and defined by corresponding apertures (88), (90), (92), (94) in plates (78) and (80) forming oil cooling chambers (76) and located centrally thereof.
