An electronic device includes a flexible display and a device housing that defines a translation surface for the flexible display. A blade assembly is positioned between the flexible display and the translation surface. A rotor is positioned within a curvilinear section of the blade assembly and flexible display. A translation mechanism translates the blade assembly and flexible display between an extended position, a retracted position, and a peek position revealing an image capture device.

An electronic device includes a device housing and a blade assembly carrying a blade and slidably coupled to the device housing. The electronic device includes a translation mechanism operable to slide the blade assembly relative to the device housing. The electronic device includes one or more processors operable with the translation mechanism. The one or more processors automatically transition the blade assembly to the peek position when a front-facing imager or front-facing loudspeaker is required unless a privacy mode of operation is enabled, wherein transition of the blade assembly to the peek position is precluded.

An electronic device, method, and computer program product provide a flexible display that is configurable when being worn around a wrist of a user to increase a display width area. The electronic device includes a strap having an outer layer presenting the flexible display and an inner support layer attached to an underside of the flexible display. The strap is positionable between an uncoiled position and the coiled position with lateral edges of first and second terminal ends of the strap juxtaposed in abutted alignment. In response to forward motion of a user, the processor raises a pointing elevation angle of the camera to maintaining the user within the field of view by autonomously controlling the hinge angle between the first device housing and the second device housing of the foldable mobile device and in response to backward motion the processor lowers the pointing elevation angle by autonomously using shape memory actuators to control the hinge angle in the direction determined based on the form factor.

The electronic device includes a flexible display and a slider framework fixedly coupled to the first device housing. A display mover slidably couples the flexible display to the slider framework, while a housing mover slidably couples the second device housing to the slider framework. An actuator coupled between the display mover and the housing mover causes the display mover and the housing mover to slide symmetrically in opposite directions along the slider framework when the second device housing slides relative to the first device housing between a closed position and an open position.

Systems and methods for providing multiple paths through a mobile electronic device entail providing one of multiple levels of device access and cloud access based on an identity determination and authentication as to a potential user. In an embodiment, the device attempts to identify the user based on traditional touch/touchless authentication techniques. If this attempt is unsuccessful, the device then tries to identify the user by alternative means. If the user can be identified, the device attempts to authenticate the user for full access to the device and associated cloud data. If this is successful, the user is granted full access. If instead the identified user is not qualified for full access, the user is given pass-through access to their personal cloud storage. If, however, the device is unable to even identify the user, the user may be given pass-through access to the cloud generally.

In embodiments of wearable device heart monitor systems, a wearable device has electrical contacts integrated in a housing base of the wearable device as electrodes designed to contact skin of a user while wearing the wearable device. A housing bezel of the wearable device designed as an additional point of contact on the wearable device. The wearable device includes an electromyography (EMG) system to receive electrical signals from at least two of the electrodes and detect muscular movement of the user. Further, the wearable device includes an electrocardiogram (ECG) system to receive and combine the electrical signals from the electrodes when the user touch contacts the housing bezel while wearing the wearable device to complete an ECG loop between the electrodes and the housing bezel for a heart rate reading of the user.

Touchless authentication of a person as an authorized user of the electronic device occurs when the at least one image matches the first predefined criterion, the at least one facial depth scan matches the second predefined criterion, and the thermal energy matches the third predefined criterion. Additional security factors, such as the expression of a predefined mien, can be used as well.

A crown stem includes a push button disposed within a duct of a threaded bushing and one or more O-rings disposed about the actuation stem to allow translation of the actuation stem in the duct while preventing liquids from passing through the duct. The crown stem inserts through the aperture in the case so that the threaded bushing can hermetically seal the receiving aperture when the device body is inserted into the circular receiver to prevent the liquids from entering the receiving aperture.

This disclosure describes techniques and apparatuses for rotational alignment of a circular display and a circular lens. In one or more implementations, a display device, such as a smart watch, includes a circular lens assembly that overlays a circular display assembly. The display device includes at least two alignment points positioned along the perimeter of the circular display assembly that enable a machine vision system to rotationally align the circular display assembly to the circular lens assembly. At least one of the alignment points includes a target mark on the perimeter of the circular lens assembly that is viewable by the machine vision system through a corresponding alignment hole on the perimeter of the circular display assembly. The alignment hole is within a border region of the circular display assembly, but is sized and positioned so that it does not impact the structure of the circular display assembly.
