Devices and methods are provided for frequently measuring the concentration of an analyte present in a biological system. A monitoring system having at least two components is employed in order to allow separation of data collection from data processing and display. Such separation allows greater flexibility and convenience for the user.

Devices and methods for frequent measurement of an analyte present in a biological system

The invention relates generally to consumable components of a device used for continually or continuously measuring the concentration of target chemical analytes present in a biological system. More particularly, the invention relates to collection assemblies, laminate structures, and autosensor assemblies, which are used in connection with a transdermal sampling device. In one aspect, the invention includes autosensor assemblies which include laminate structures, electrode assemblies, and support trays. One important application of the invention involves an autosensor assembly for use in a blood glucose monitoring device.

Collection assemblies, laminates, and autosensor assemblies for use in transdermal sampling systems

Devices and methods are described for improving the contact of a conductive material, for example, a hydrogel, with a sensor, for example an electrode, by means of using mechanical force to apply the conductive material to the sensor before use of the conductive material and sensor in a sampling device. The device and methods of the present invention improve the sensor response characteristics in transdermal sampling devices placed in operative contact with a skin or mucosal surface of a biological system to obtain a chemical signal associated with an analyte of interest.

Device and methods for the application of mechanical force to a gel/sensor assembly

The invention relates generally to methods of producing consumable components of a device used for measuring the concentration of target chemical analytes present in a biological system. More particularly, the invention relates methods of producing collection assemblies, laminate structures, and autosensor assemblies, which are used in connection with a transdermal sampling device. In one aspect, the invention includes methods of producing autosensor assemblies which include laminate structures, electrode assemblies, and support trays. One important application of the invention involves methods of producing an autosensor assembly for use in a blood glucose monitoring device.

Methods of producing collection assemblies, laminates, and autosensor assemblies for use in transdermal sampling systems

A redundant safety lock for securing a centrifuge lid in its closed position. The lock includes a disc having an aperture through which a striker on the lid can be inserted in an unlocked position. The disc is rotated to a locked position such that the striker cannot be withdrawn through the aperture to open the lid. The weight distribution of the disc is substantially symmetrical about its center of rotation. The disc is therefore less susceptible to dislodging form its locked position upon perturbation from shock experienced.

Centrifuge lid safety lock

A mechanical overspeed protection device incorporated in a microtest plate carrier used in a centrifuge rotor. A locking arm actuates into a blocking position on the microtest plates in the carrier to indicate that the carriers on the rotor have been subjected to an overspeed condition during the centrifugation run. A housing within the carrier microtest plate retains the arm in an unactivated position during operation below a specified force field. However, when the carrier experiences an overspeed condition, the locking arm is designed to have sufficient weight, so that in response to the centrifugally induced forces the arm will move out of the housing into an outward blocking position on the carrier plates. The insertion of new microtest plates in the carrier for additional centrifugation runs is prevented, since the locking arm is in its blocking position. The blocking position of the locking arm will notify the operator that other carriers should replace the ones which have been subjected to an overspeed condition.

A pivotal carrier for use in centrifuge rotors wherein the ends of the rotor carriers are adjustable to vary the supporting or receiving surface area in the carrier to accommodate various sized tube racks which may be used in the centrifuge rotor. Holding members in opposite ends of each carrier are movable to a plurality of positions to symmetrically position the tube rack within the carrier to maintain dynamic rotor balance.

Adjustable tube rack carrier

An adaptor for use in a centrifuge bucket for evenly distributing a number of cylindrical test tubes thereacross and for maximizing the number of test tubes positionable in the bucket. The adaptor comprises a thin, flat, disc-shaped plate having a diameter approximately equal to the inside diameter of the bucket and a plurality of separate, unconnected partitions made integral with and extending normal to one side of the plate, the partitions defining a plurality of cavities for receipt of the bases of the test tubes. The partitions support substantially less than the entire circumference of each tube and have lengths which are substantially less than the lengths of the tubes. A lifting tray and handle provide means for lifting the adaptor and test tubes from the rotor bucket.
