An electric switch is disclosed, in particular an electric circuit breaker. In at least one example embodiment, the switch includes a measuring channel for measuring an electric measured variable and is switched off when the result of a measurement reaches or exceeds a limit value. To test the mode of operation of the measuring channel, the electric measured variable is switched to a reference channel and a reference signal source is switched to the measuring channel and the reference result obtained via the measuring channel is compared with a reference setpoint. The switch is also tripped if, to test the mode of operation of the measuring channel, the electric measured variable is switched to the reference channel and the result obtained via the reference channel reaches or exceeds the limit value.

A power circuit breaker is disclosed wherein an electric current is monitored by an electronic trip unit in order to detect an electrical fault. In an embodiment, a first magnetic device of the power circuit breaker, in the event of a fault being detected, is configured to be excited which, when it is excited, trips a trip mechanism via a plunger. As a result of tripping, the trip mechanism disconnects two contacts via which the current flows. The power circuit breaker of an embodiment includes a second magnetic device which is likewise able to be excited by the ETU and by which the trip mechanism is likewise able to be tripped.

A method is disclosed for testing the functionality of the electromagnetic tripping of a switch, in particular of a circuit breaker for low voltages, which has switching contacts which are opened with the aid of a tripping shaft, which is held prestressed by a switching mechanism and is unlatched by a tripping magnet which for this purpose has a winding through which a current is sent for tripping. In order to test the functionality with relatively little effort, it is proposed in at least one embodiment that the winding is connected as an inductance in a resonant circuit, the resonant frequency of the resonant circuit is detected, and the functionality of the tripping magnet is assessed on the basis of the detected resonant frequency.

A switch and a method for testing the power transformers of a power supply of the switch are provided, wherein each power transformer generates an analog transformer voltage corresponding to the alternating current, wherein an electronic trip unit, to which each transformer voltage is applied, compares a current derived from each transformer voltage with a current condition, and wherein a rectifier circuit connected to the power transformer charges a capacitor which feeds the power supply of the trip unit. A switching device short-circuits each rectifier circuit when a predefined capacitor voltage is reached. To provide the protective function of the switch, a monostable multivibrator is connected to one pole of each power transformer, wherein each monostable multivibrator is set by the respective transformer voltage and reset after a predefined time, and wherein the level at the output of each monostable multivibrator is used to test the respective power transformer.

A method is disclosed for storing individual data items of a low-voltage switch provided with a microcontroller triggering unit. According to an embodiment, the ROM cells of a dead microcontroller ROM which are not occupied by a program code memory cells are occupied by the individual data items of the low-voltage switch.

A three or four pole low-voltage power switch is disclosed wherein the switch is partly provided with a device for detecting ground faults. For this purpose, the current vectorial sum must be produced in the three or four conductors of a monitored network. For the switches of this type, output signals received from Rogowski coils are directed via resistances to an integration capacitor whose voltage forms an input signal of another measuring amplifier representing the current sum of a monitored network. The output signal of the measuring amplifier is, afterwards processed in a known manner in the microprocessor of an excess-current trip.

An electrical power breaker includes an electronic protective device and an electronic memory. The memory is accommodated in the power breaker such that it is physically separated from said protective device, for operational data for the power breaker. Data security when using the additional electronic memory is increased by the electronic memory being connected to the protective device via a data bus, which can be used to transmit control signals for the purpose of activating or deactivating a write protection device of the electronic memory. The data bus is preferably an IC bus, and the write protection device is controlled by an I/O module which is likewise controlled by the IC bus.
