A computer implemented medical method of calibrating a medical instrument is provided. The method calculates a position of the instrument tip model within the indentation model, associated with an estimated position of the instrument tip within the indentation and calibrates the medical instrument, thereby using the determined position of the instrument tip model. The position of any arbitrary medical instrument tip, such as an indentation of a calibration device, can be estimated. This is an improvement of accuracy in view of the generic approach of using the same reference point of the indentation of the calibration device for any arbitrary medical instrument tip. A virtual model of a shape of a medical instrument, such as the instrument tip, is matched onto a virtual model of a shape of a calibration device, such as an indentation of the calibration device.

Method of calibrating a medical instrument using virtual models

A computer implemented medical method of calibrating a cage is presented. In particular, this calibration method calculates a virtual model of the cage based on a cage tip point and a cage end point, acquired by using a pointer tip of a pointing device, and at least one axis, acquired by using a pointer shaft of the pointing device along a side of the cage. This method allows for providing a more detailed virtual model of the cage, while being in compliance with sterility restrictions.

Disclosed is a computer-implemented method of training a likelihood-based computational model for determining the position of an image representation of an annotated anatomical structure in a two-dimensional x-ray image, wherein the method encompasses inputting medical DRRs together with annotation to a machine learning algorithm to train the algorithm, i.e. to generate adapted leamable parameters of the machine learning model. The annotations may be derived from metadata associated with the DRRs or may be included in atlas data which is matched with the DRRs to establish a relation between the annotations included in the atlas data and the DRRs. The thus generated machine learning algorithm may then be used to analyse clinical or synthesized DRRs so as to appropriately add annotations to those DRRs and/or identify the position of an anatomical structure in those DRRs.

Provided is a method for determining a position of an imaged anatomical body part of a patient. The method includes acquiring patient image data describing a digital image of at least part of a reference device and the anatomical body part, acquiring reference device model data describing a model of at least one of at least one internal surface or at least one external surface of the reference device, determining, &#x2014;based on the patient image data and the reference device model data, reference device image position data describing a relative position between the reference device and the anatomical body part, acquiring reference device tracking data describing a position of the reference device in the tracking reference system, and determining, based on the reference device image position data and the reference device tracking data, body part tracking data describing a position of the anatomical body part in the tracking reference system.

The present invention relates to a computer-implemented medical data processing method for determining a 2D-view within an acquired 3D-image-dataset of a patient, wherein the method comprises executing, on a processor of a computer, the following steps: a) a representation of at least one anatomical structure () of interest is identified in the 3D-image-dataset and registered with the at least one anatomical structure (); b) the spatial position of the at least one anatomical structure () and the spatial position of a predetermined section of a medical instrument () are determined in real space; c) the 2D-view is determined within the 3D-image-dataset, wherein the view-plane of the 2D-view is defined on the basis of the spatial position of the medical instrument (), and wherein the view-center (B) of the 2D-view is defined on the basis of the relative spatial position of a predetermined section of the medical instrument () and the at least one anatomical structure (); d) the relative position of the defined view-center with respect to a predetermined section of the medical instrument () is maintained in the 2D-view.
