A computer-implemented diabetes management system is provided that supports enhanced security between a diabetes care manager in data communication with a medical device. The diabetes care manager includes: a first application that operates to request access to a first security role supported by the medical device, where the first security role is associated with a first set of commands for accessing data on the medical device that are defined as a private extension of the communication protocol; and a second application that operates to request access to a second security role supported by the medical device, where the second security role is associated with a second set of commands for accessing data on the medical device that are defined as a private extension of the communication protocol. The second set of commands has one or more commands that are mutually exclusive from the first set of commands.

Coexistence of multiple radios in a medical device

A handheld diabetes management device having a plurality of communication modules for communicating with a plurality of medical devices via a shared antenna or multiple antennas, where the handheld diabetes management device includes a first communication module, a second communication module, and an arbitration module. The first communication module selectively communicates in a first frequency band with an insulin infusion pump external to the handheld diabetes management device via a first antenna using a first wireless communication protocol. The second communication module selectively communicates in the first frequency band with a continuous glucose monitor external to the handheld diabetes management device via a second antenna or the first antenna using a second wireless communication protocol. The arbitration module grants permission to communicate to the first communication module and denies permission to communicate to the second communication module when the first and second communication modules request permission to communicate concurrently.

An apparatus such as a television signal receiver, radio or other device provides an emergency alert function. According to an exemplary embodiment, the apparatus includes a tuner for tuning a channel frequency that provides emergency alert signals indicating an emergency event. A processor enables an alert output responsive to the emergency alert signals. A single user input button receives tactile user inputs to control the emergency alert function. The single user input button is the only tactile user input means integral with the apparatus that is capable of controlling the emergency alert function.

A television monitor display with video signal processing comprises a source (SM) of a video display signal (Y) including a sync component (S). A video processor (U) is coupled to process the video display signal (Y). A sync separator (SS) is coupled to generate separated synchronizing signals (Sy) from the sync component (S) of the video display signal (Y). A video amplifier () is coupled to the sync separator (SS) and the video processor (U) and generates an output video signal (Ys+) wherein a sync component (S+) of the output video signal is increased in amplitude in accordance with the separate synchronizing signals (Sy) coupled to the video amplifier ().

Signal acquisition following transient signal interruption

An apparatus and a method for processing auxiliary data included in a video signal, in particular auxiliary data included in the vertical blanking interval of a television signal. The present invention recognizes that comb filtering of a television signal before processing the auxiliary data included in the television signal may cause corruption of the data. The present invention overcomes the problems associated with the data corruption by placing the takeoff point for the auxiliary data at a point in the signal path prior to the comb filtering. In an exemplary embodiment, the present invention also provides for switching between one of a plurality of signal sources while ensuring that the signal provided to an auxiliary data processor corresponds to the displayed signal and minimizing the additional hardware and software required with regard to prior art arrangements.

Method and apparatus for preventing data corruption from video related enhancements

A differential transconductance amplifier having a fixed value of differential transconductance provides a video output signal current directly proportional to the transconductance of the amplifier and to a difference between first and second differential video input signals supplies thereto. A pair of buffer amplifiers couples the video input signals to respective inputs of the differential transconductance amplifier via respective diode switches which provides Vber protection for the buffer transistors and provides bus isolation under power down conditions. An output circuit regulates the output voltage of the differential transconductance amplifier at a substantially fixed voltage and converts the output signal current to an output signal voltage. Advantageously, the receiver provides very accurate signal gain control unconditional stability, a wide common mode input voltage range, avoids the need for stand-by power and will not load the input bus under power-down conditions.

Video differential bus receiver for audio/video interconnection

In a projection television system, a blue phosphor roll-off compensation network is included in the emitter circuit of a common emitter configured transistor comprising the driver amplifier for the blue cathode ray tube. The roll-off compensation network includes a voltage divider connected between the emitter of the common emitter configured transistor and a source of a bias voltage, and a second transistor having its base connected to a point within the voltage divider and its collector-emitter path connected in series with a gain changing resistor between the emitter of the common emitter configured transistor and the source of the variable bias voltage. The voltage divider determines the level of drive current at which the second transistor is rendered conductive and thereby the point at which roll-off compensation is applied. The gain changing resistor determines the amount of compensation.

Audio bus receiver includes a pair of bipolar transistors each having a base coupled via a respective resistor to a respective bus receiver input terminal, each having an emitter that is diode coupled to a respective current source and each having a collector coupled via a respective load resistor to a source of reference potential. The emitters are coupled together via a gain control resistor and the collectors are coupled to an output terminal via a differential amplifier. Advantageously, the receiver avoids loading the bus under power-down conditions without requiring the use of stand-by power supplies. Additionally, high common mode rejection is achieved without need for precision matching of components and only a single supply voltage is required for operation.

A bias source (R7,R8,C24) connected to a summing amplifier (Q1) produces a first DC bias at the amplifier input (emitter) and a second DC bias at the amplifier output (collector). A first circuit node (B) is AC coupled (22) to a luminance signal source (Y1, 18), DC coupled via a first resistor (R4) to the input of the summing amplifier and DC coupled via a first amplifier (28) to a luminance load (Y3,30). A second circuit node (A) is AC coupled (20) to a chrominance signal source (C1,18), DC coupled via a second resistor (R3) to the input (emitter, Q1) of the summing amplifier and DC coupled via a second amplifier (26) to a chrominance signal load (C3,30). A third amplifier (Q2) provides DC coupling of the output of the summing amplifier (Q1) to a composite video signal load (E,40). Advantageously, the circuit provides component to composite conversion with plural buffered outputs which may exhibit different power gains, which are stable notwithstanding load impedance variations and which are DC biased by bias produced at the summing amplifier input as well as its output thereby simplifying the conversion and buffering.

A driver for a cathode ray tube includes a black level compensation circuit which generates an offset voltage which tracks the current flowing to the output of the driver and therefore the average picture level (APL). The offset voltage is added as a component of the output voltage so as to increasingly shift the output voltage toward black as the APL increases. This compensates for CRT gamma non-linearities and for light scattering effects which might otherwise cause the loss of perceived detail and sharpness in dark areas of a high APL image. In the disclosed embodiment, the driver comprises a cascode amplifier and the offset voltage generating element includes a capacitively bypassed resistor connected in a reference voltage network connected to the emitter circuit of the lower (common emitter configured) transistor of the cascode amplilfier.

In a TV system which includes an autopix feedback loop limiting the range over which the contrast can be controlled, there is included means for generating a non-linear contrast control voltage as a function of customer control settings in order to extend the range over which the customer can control the contrast.

A TV system includes a selectively enabled blanking network for introducing blanking into the autopix feedback loop during vertical blanking periods. The TV system includes a contrast control section responsive to color signals whose output is coupled to a brightness control section. Outputs of the brightness control section are combined via a combining means to produce a 'combined signal' representative of the luminance component of the image to be displayed. The 'combined signal', which is not 'blanked' during the vertical blanking (retrace) period, is coupled via a feedback loop which includes a peak detector and a comparator to the input of the contrast control section for controlling its response to the color signals. The selectively enabled blanking network is coupled to the input of the peak detector in the feedback loop for limiting the propagation of the 'combined signal' via the feedback loop during vertical blanking intervals.

A television receiver provides a noise-free set up signal by automatically selecting an unused baseband video input terminal, or an unused pair of SVIDEO input terminals. Selection of the unused terminals provides a D.C. level to the luminance path, and allows the horizontal oscillator to free-run. In addition to selecting an unused video input terminal, the subject apparatus automatically increases the brightness level a few steps to simulate a 7.5 IRE flat field (commonly known as set up). The above-listed steps may be performed manually by a service technician, for television receivers not incorporating apparatus for automatically performing the steps.

A so-called 'one-chip' television IC includes a dual purpose input terminal for receiving a control signal representing an image property, such as a contrast, and also a signal having an amplitude within a predetermined range for enabling a test mode of operation. The control signal is generated by at least first and second control circuits. The first control circuit provides a first control signal set by a user. The second control circuit provides a second control signal in response to the image content of an image-representative signal produced by the integrated circuit, and may comprise a beam current limiter responsive to the beam current drawn by an image reproducing device or a circuit responsive directly to the image-representative signal. The first and second control signals are combined to produce a combined control signal which is applied to the dual purpose input terminal. A circuit is coupled to the dual purpose input terminal to inhibit a voltage which extends into the predetermined range corresponding to the test mode from being developed at the terminal in response to the combined control signal.

A television receiver includes a kinescope spot burn protection circuit comprising a capacitor coupled between a source of blanking signal and a control grid of the kinescope for applying negative grid cut-off bias to the kinescope in response to the blanking signal. The amplifier is of the cascode type having a minimum output voltage for peak white levels of a video signal applied to the cathode. The protection circuit includes a potential divider for biasing the kinescope at a positive voltage level related to the minimum output voltage of the amplifier during normal operation of the receiver to maximize the brightness of displayed images. The protection circuit also includes a breakdown device in the potential divider for limiting the maximum grid bias voltage to a level less than the minimum output level of the amplifier but greater than the positive voltage level provided by the potential divider to thereby avoid forward biasing the grid of the kinescope upon termination of the blanking signal which otherwise could occur during recharging of the capacitor.
