A kit for containing components for fabricating functional casts, and including a box, and a length of liner for being placed next to the skin of the body part to be immobilized; a moisture-proof package containing a length of cast tape of the type impregnated with a moisture-curable resin that remains in a flexible, comformable state until activated and hardened into a rigid state by exposure to moisture; at least one strap for securing the cast onto the body part being immobilized and a length of adhesive edger material for enclosing raw edges of the hardened cast tape for protecting the skin of the cast wearer from exposure to the cast tape, each of which is contained in the box.

Functional cast therapy product and method

A wrist splint assembly for being custom-fitted to a hand and wrist to be supported. The wrist splint assembly includes a first splint for being positioned against and formed to the volar aspect of the hand and wrist, and a second splint for being positioned against and formed to the dorsal aspect of the hand and wrist. Each of the first and second splints defines a concave side edge extending inwardly toward the longitudinal axis of the splint for permitting ease of movement of the thumb and associated carpometacarpal joint of the hand against which the splint is positioned. Each splint also includes an inner cushion layer, an initially flexible intermediate layer overlying the inner cushion layer, and a flexible outer layer. The intermediate layer is a substrate impregnated with a moisture-curable resin that hardens upon curing to form a rigid structure of the substrate that retains a shape into which it is molded during curing for maintaining the flexible inner cushion layer in a conforming shape against the hand and wrist. A support retains the first and second splints in position on the hand and wrist during use of the splint assembly.

Custom-moldable wrist splint

A medical bandaging product in roll form for being dispensed in predetermined lengths suitable for a given medical use, and including an elongate sleeve formed of moisture-impervious material and sealable to prevent entry of moisture, and an elongate medical bandage material substantially the same length as the sleeve and positioned in the sleeve in a single length along the length of the sleeve and sealed therein against entry of moisture until use. The medical bandage material includes a substrate and a reactive system impregnated into or coated onto the substrate. The system remains stable when maintained in substantially moisture-free conditions and hardens upon exposure to sufficient moisture to form a rigid, self supporting structure. A protective liner sheet encloses the substrate along its length and forms a barrier between the substrate and the sleeve during storage, and is optionally removable after removal of the medical bandage material from the sleeve and prior to application to a patient. The substrate is adapted for having a protective padding material interposed between the substrate and the patient.

Roll form medical bandaging product, medical bandage material, method of constructing same, and bandaging method

A knee immobilizer for being custom-formed to the shape of a knee while flexible and upon hardening providing a rigid, knee-supporting custom fit. The knee immobilizer includes an elongate splint with a substrate impregnated or coated with a reactive system. The system hardens upon exposure to moisture to form a rigid, self-supporting structure. A flexible cover overlies the substrate for forming an integrated splint structure for being molded while flexible to an aspect of the knee. A bandage extends around the knee for holding the splint in a supporting position on the knee. A splint support cooperates with the splint and the bandage for maintaining the splint on the bandage in a conforming shape against the knee and substantially immobilizing the knee in a predetermined position.

Custom-formable knee immobilizer product, knee immobilizer and method

A knee pad assembly for relieving the symptoms of patellar tendinitis, including a pad adapted for being positioned against and molded onto a lower leg in the region of the knee for lying in closely-conforming relation against and applying radially-directed pressure to the attachment site of the patellar tendon to the patella, to the knee joint, and to at least one epicondyle of the tibia. The pad is hardened into a rigid structure for therapeutic use and includes an initially flexible inner substrate impregnated or coated with a reactive system. The system remains stable when maintained in substantially moisture-free conditions and hardens upon exposure to moisture to form a rigid, self-supporting structure having a shape conforming to the lower leg to which the pad is molded during curing. A flexible cover encloses the substrate, and cooperates with the pad for maintaining the pad in its closely-conforming position against the lower leg.

Custom-moldable support for patellar tendinitis

An elongate medical bandaging product for being dispensed in lengths suitable for a given medical use, including an elongate sleeve of a predetermined length formed of a moisture-impervious material and sealable to prevent entry of moisture, and an elongate medical material having substantially the same predetermined length as the elongate sleeve and positioned within the sleeve in substantially moisture-free conditions and sealed therein against moisture until use. The medical material includes a flattened tubular substrate having a pair of opposed, major surfaces defining side edges extending along the length of the elongate sleeve and characterized by being substantially free of cut fibrous ends, a reactive system impregnated into or coated onto the substrate, the system remaining stable when maintained in substantially moisture-free conditions and hardening upon exposure to sufficient moisture to form a rigid, self supporting structure, and a soft, flexible protective wrapping enclosing the flattened tubular substrate along its length to provide a cushioning barrier between the substrate and the skin of a patient when the material is in use.

Medical bandaging product with tubular-knitted substrate

A tennis elbow pad assembly product for relieving the symptoms of lateral epicondylitis is disclosed. The tennis elbow pad assembly product includes an outer pouch formed of a moisture-impervious material. A pad is positioned in the pouch in substantially moisture-free conditions and sealed therein against entry of moisture until use. The pad is adapted for being positioned against and molded onto a forearm in the region of the elbow for lying in closely-conforming relation against and applying radially-directed pressure to the common tendon attachment and grasping and supination muscles associated with the radial-humeral joint and the lateral epicondyle of a forearm and hardened into a rigid structure for therapeutic use. The pad includes an initially flexible substrate impregnated or coated with a reactive system. The system remains stable when maintained in substantially moisture-free conditions and hardens upon exposure to moisture to form a rigid, self-supporting structure having a shape that conforms to the forearm to which the pad is molded during curing. The pad also includes a flexible outer layer enclosing the substrate and a support cooperating with the pad for maintaining the pad in its closely-conforming position against the forearm.

Custom molded tennis elbow pad assembly

A custom-formable knee immobilizer product for being custom-formed to the shape of a knee while flexible and upon hardening providing a rigid, knee-supporting custom fit. The knee immobilizer product includes an outer container formed of moisture-impervious material and a plurality of elongate knee splint segments positioned in the container in substantially moisture-free conditions and sealed therein against entry of moisture until use. Each of the knee splints includes an elongate substrate, a reactive system impregnated into or coated onto the substrate. The system remains stable when maintained in substantially moisture-free conditions and hardens upon exposure to moisture to form a rigid, self supporting structure. A flexible protective outer cover is positioned over the substrate along its length to enclose the substrate. The substrate and outer cover thus form a unitary structure for being molded while flexible to an aspect of the knee and adjacent thigh and calf portions of the leg. A bandage is provided for being positioned on and held in a closely-conforming configuration around the knee and adjacent thigh and calf portions of the leg. Splint supports cooperate with the splints and the bandage for maintaining the plurality of splints on the bandage in closely conforming position in vertically spaced-apart relation around the knee for substantially immobilizing the knee in a predetermined recovery position.

A lumbosacral support pad for being custom-fitted to the lumbosacral area of the back and comprising an initially flexible fabric layer comprised of a fabric impregnated or coated with a moisture-curable resin which hardens upon curing to form a rigid structure which retains the shape into which it is molded during curing, a protective covering layer enclosing at least one major surface of the fabric layer, a moisture-proof protective pouch within which said lumbosacral support pad is sealed for storage in the absence of moisture until the pad is to be molded to the back.

Custom-fitting lumbosacral support pad

An elongate medical bandaging product for being dispensed in lengths suitable for a given medical use, including an elongate sleeve of a predetermined length formed of a moisture-impervious material and sealable to prevent entry of moisture, and an elongate medical material having substantially the same predetermined length as the elongate sleeve and positioned in a continuous layer which coextends within the sleeve in substantially moisture-free conditions and sealed therein against moisture until use. The medical material includes a tubular substrate having a pair of opposed, major surfaces defining folded side edges extending along the length of the elongate sleeve and characterized by being substantially free of cut fibrous ends, a reactive system impregnated into or coated onto the substrate, the system remaining stable when maintained in substantially moisture-free conditions and hardening upon exposure to sufficient moisture to form a rigid, self supporting structure, and a soft, flexible protective wrapping enclosing the substrate along its length to provide a cushioning barrier between the substrate and the skin of a patient when the material is in use. A desired length of the medical material is therefore removable from the length of bandaging product by severing the medical material and the sleeve at a desired point without removing additional excess medical material from the sleeve.

A thumb spica splint for being custom-fitted to the thumb portion of the hand for immobilizing the thumb while permitting continued unrestricted use of the other fingers of the hand, and including an elongate, flexible inner cushion layer, an initially flexible intermediate layer overlying the inner cushion layer, the intermediate layer formed of a fabric impregnated or coated with a moisture-curable resin which hardens upon curing to form a rigid structure of the fabric which retains a shape into which it is molded during curing. A flexible protective outer layer overlies the intermediate layer and is attached to the inner cushion layer for enclosing the intermediate layer and forming the inner layer, intermediate layer and outer layer into a single, integrated splint structure. The splint is shaped to extend along and conform to the medial aspect of the lower arm and thumb to the distal joint thereof. An elongate thumb strap is fixedly attached by one end thereof to the splint structure adjacent the thumb for extending around the thumb and releasably attaching to a thumb strap attachment element fixedly attached to the splint structure for holding the splint structure in a supporting position around the thumb. Arm straps are fixedly attached by one end thereofto the splint structure adjacent the arm for extending around the arm and releasably attaching to an arm strap attachment element fixedly attached to the splint structure for holding the splint structure in a supporting position around the arm.

Custom-moldable universal thumb spica splint

An elongate medical splint product is provided for being dispensed in lengths suitable for a given medical use. The splint product includes a multi-layer moisture-hardenable plaster substrate having first and second opposed major surfaces. A soft foam cushion envelopes the first major surface and opposed marginal portions of the second major surface of the substrate. A moisture absorbent panel overlies opposed marginal portions of the second major surface of the substrate and the cushion. First and second spaced-apart rows of stitches extend along the length of the splint product and through the marginal portions of the substrate, the foam cushion, and the panel to bind the substrate, cushion, and panel together. This forms a unitary bandaging product which can be dispensed, cut to length, and applied without further assembly.

Medical splint product

A carpal tunnel splint for being custom-fitted to a hand and wrist to be supported, and comprising an elongate, narrow flexible inner cushion layer for being placed on and conformed to the shape of the hand and wrist, an initially flexible intermediate layer overlying the inner cushion layer and an intermediate layer comprised of a fabric impregnated with a moisture-curable resin which hardens upon curing to form a rigid structure of the fabric which retains a shape into which it is molded during curing, thereby also holding the flexible inner cushion layer in a conforming shape against the hand and wrist. A flexible protective outer layer overlies the intermediate layer and is attached to the inner cushion layer for enclosing the intermediate layer and forming the inner layer, intermediate layer and outer layer into a single, integrated elongated, narrow splint structure.

Universal carpal tunnel wrist splint

An ankle splint product includes an ankle splint for being custom-formed to the shape of an ankle while flexible and upon hardening providing a rigid, supporting custom fit. The ankle splint product includes an outer container formed of moisture-impervious material, and first and second flexible ankle splint segments positioned in the container in substantially moisture-free conditions and sealed therein against entry of moisture until use. Each of the first and second ankle splint segments includes an elongate substrate and a reactive system impregnated into or coated onto the substrate. The system remains stable when maintained in substantially moisture-free conditions and hardens upon exposure to moisture to form a rigid, self supporting structure. An elongate, flexible protective pad is positioned on one side of the substrate along its length to provide a cushioning barrier between the substrate and the skin of a patient when the ankle splint is in use. An elongate outer cover covers the substrate on the side opposite the protective pad. A flexible cushion insert has a first major surface overlying the protective pad and an opposing second major surface adapted for residing adjacent an ankle bone of the patient. The cushion insert cooperates with the protective pad to further protect and cushion the ankle of the patient when the ankle splint is in use.

Custom-fitted ankle splint

An ankle splint product including an ankle splint for being custom-formed to the shape of an ankle while flexible and upon hardening providing a rigid, supporting custom fit. The ankle splint product includes an outer container formed of moisture-impervious material and first and second flexible ankle splint segments positioned in the container in substantially moisture-free conditions and sealed against entry of moisture until use. Each of the first and second ankle splint segments has an elongate substrate, a reactive system impregnated into or coated onto the substrate, the system remaining stable when maintained in substantially moisture-free conditions and hardening upon exposure to moisture to form a rigid, self supporting structure, an elongate, flexible protective pad positioned on one side of the substrate along its length to provide a cushioning barrier between the substrate and the skin of a patient when the ankle splint is in use, and an elongate outer cover covering the substrate on the side opposite the protective pad. The substrate, protective pad and outer cover are connected together into a unitary structure for being molded while flexible to an aspect of the ankle. First attaching members are secured to one end of the first splint segment, and second attaching members are secured to one end of the second splint segment for cooperating with the first attachment means for releasably attaching the first and second splint segments together into a splint and to form a heel stirrup for stabilizing the splint on the lateral and medial aspects of the ankle.
