A hyperboloid contact socket includes a tubular body of metal or other suitable conductive material. The tubular body includes first and second ends. The first end includes a lip defining an aperture entrance for receiving a mating pin terminal. At the second end of the tubular body, a spline is crimped or otherwise affixed to the confronting end of the tubular body. The spline has an integral termination extending therefrom. The tubular body contains a plurality of conductive wires affixed at their respective ends to respective inner surfaces at or near the outer and inner ends of the body and disposed in an angular disposition to form the shape of a single sheet hyperboloid. Permanent and conductive attachment of the wires to the tubular body and the spline is provided through deformation of the body by rolling, crimping, swaging or other suitable means.

Hyperboloid electrical contact

A hyperboloid contact socket is provided which comprises a tubular body of conductive material and preferably having at one end a lip defining an entrance aperture for receiving a mating pin terminal and having on the opposite end a termination of an intended configuration for attachment to a circuit board or other device or item. The tubular body contains a plurality of conductive wires conductively and permanently affixed at their respective ends torespective inner surfaces at or near the outer and inner ends of the body and disposed in an angular disposition to the longitudinal axis to form the shape of a single sheet hyperboloid. In one aspect of the invention a mandrel employed to orient the wires within the tubular body during fabrication of the contact socket remains attached to the tubular body after assembly of the contact wires and serves as a connecting pin to which various terminations can be attached.

Method of making a hyperboloid electrical contact

An improved probe includes a conductive tubular housing or body containing a coil spring and a conductive plunger movable in the housing and having a contact tip outwardly extending from one end of the housing. The plunger and tip are urged to a normally outward position by the bias force of the spring. The opposite end of the housing has an opening for mating with a conductive pin of a connector. The connector is retained in a mounting plate of an associated fixture and has terminal ends of desired configuration. The terminal end may include a wire-wrap pin, a crimp type terminal or wire jack for attachment to a wire, or the terminal may include a spring loaded pin for engagement with an associated electrical contact. An air tight seal may be provided between the probe and the connector and the connector may be mounted in a mounting such that when vacuum is applied to an associated test fixture, air cannot be drawn through the fixture or through the body of the probe.

Test probe and connector

A method and apparatus for hydro-forming desired features into the walls of thin-walled objects such as small tubes. A mold is provided having an internal surface that is sized and shaped to support the wall of the tubing or other workpiece and defines cavities that correspond to the desired features. A fluid filled hollow needle having no O-rings or seals thereon is provided that has at least one opening therein for supplying hydraulic fluid under pressure to the inside surface of the tubing. The needle has an outer diameter that is smaller than the inner diameter of the tubing to form a small clearance therebetween when the needle is in the tubing. The clearance is sized to prevent any substantial leakage of fluid from the needle and provide a pressure drop in the clearance sufficient to maintain the pressure of the fluid, at the portions of the wall to be deformed, high enough to deform the wall, while also facilitating insertion and removal of the needle into and from the tubing. The needle is inserted into the tubing and a pulse of hydraulic pressure is applied to the fluid inside the needle for transmission through the opening(s) in the needle to the inner surface of the tubing to deform the wall of the tubing into the cavities in the mold to form the features on the tubing.

Method and apparatus for hydro-forming thin-walled workpieces

A probe for providing electrical contact to electrical circuits during the testing thereof. There is a tubular housing having an open end and a generally closed end with a main portion extending from the generally closed end towards the open end and a retaining and sliding bearing portion adjacent the open end having a diameter small than the main portion. A probe plunger is disposed in the tubular housing and has a cylindrical inner portion which is a slide fit and disposed within the main portion of the tubular housing and a cylindrical outer portion of a diameter smaller than the inner portion and forming a shoulder with the inner portion at a point of meeting. The outer portion of the plunger passes through the retaining and sliding bearing portion and has an outside diameter which is a slide fit to the inside diameter of the retaining and sliding bearing portion. A longitudinally compressible bias spring is disposed between the generally closed end of the tubular housing and the inner portion of the probe plunger under a pre-loading for biasing the probe plunger towards an extended position.

An improvement to electrical circuit test probes of the type wherein a socket tube having a cylindrical spring loaded plunger therein is mounted in a test fixture. Electrical contact is assured between the socket and the plunger as the plunger moves longitudinally by the plunger having a resiliently flexible wand extending inwardly therefrom at an angular offset to the longitudinal axis of the plunger and the wand terminating in a bulbous contact member. The contact member is disposed within a cylindrical plunger tube and passes through an opening through which the contact member cannot pass. As a result, the wand acts as a flexible resilient finger holding the contact member firmly against the inner wall of the plunger tube as the plunger is moved in and out through its limits of movement.

Electrical circuit test probe and connector

An electrical connector particularly adapted for use with an electrical circuit test probe. A collet member having facing gripping jaws on one end is adapted to receive an electrical conductor. A plug housing having first and second cylindrical portions interconnected by a tapered portion is adapted to receive the collet member and squeeze the jaws into electrical connection with the conductor as the collet member is pushed into the plug housing. For use with the electrical circuit test probe, the plug housing has a closed cylindrical inner end adapted to be crimped into the end of a socket tube.

A method of manufacturing a high fin density heat dissipator is disclosed in which the dissipator is extruded through a die in a partially cylindrical shape with the elongated fins arranged on the base and extending radially therefrom. The extruded dissipator is straightened under tensile and bumping forces in a manner such that the base assumes a planar shape and the fins become substantially parallel to each other. Apparatus for straightening the extruded dissipator and a die for extruding the same are illustrated and described.
