One or more computing devices employs a method that includes requesting a transient credential (e.g., a one-time PKI certificate) as a first identity credential for an application component instance based on a unique identifier associated with the application component instance. The method includes requesting a dynamically-created second identity credential for the application component instance of the application using a request signed (e.g., using the public key of the first identity PKI certificate) based on the transient credential. The method includes receiving the dynamically-created second identity credential and using the dynamically-created second identity credential in a cryptographic function by the application component instance; and managing the replacement of this credential in environments without persistent archival storage accessible by the device/application.

A method and system is provided that may be used to dynamically modify membership of a collaboration group participating in a collaboration session using dynamic situational information associated with collaboration session and/or collaboration group member candidates. The dynamic situational information may include collaboration session information, environmental information and context information. A change in collaboration session purpose may trigger a modification of group membership in accordance with a concomitant change in group membership criteria. A change of situational information associated with any group member candidate may trigger the modification of group membership, to add or delete the candidate from the group. The method and apparatus of the present invention may advantageously be embodied in a service that is used by existing communication and collaboration systems to enhance workflow efficiency by exploiting system knowledge to improve the use of resources, reduce the incidence of errors and eliminate redundancy.

The present invention provides a system, method, and apparatus for managing the calling-party identification information offered to called parties. Accordingly, a caller can designate the Caller ID information to the called party based on the context of the call (e.g. the role of the caller) rather than the terminal used. Typically the calling party does this by selecting which of multiple values they wish to have sent with the call request. It is beneficial to implement such a mechanism in a secure manner&#x2014;the ability to employ a different calling-number or calling-name ID should be restricted to properly-authorized and authenticated persons&#x2014;in order to ensure the quality of this information. Accordingly, preferred embodiments include an authentication mechanism for verifying the calling party information is authentic.

A technique for delivering and enforcing network quality of service from a head-end to a plurality of outstations is disclosed. In one embodiment, the technique is realized by assigning a transmit duration for each one of the plurality of outstations by the head-end; and assigning a transmit frequency for each one of the plurality of outstations by the head-end; wherein bandwidth for each one of the plurality of outstations is adjusted dynamically at the head-end. In addition, a control message may be received from an outstation indicating extra capacity at the outstation where the extra capacity may be allocated for one or more of burst capacity and best effort traffic.

Technique for accommodating electronic components on a multilayer signal routing device

In order to enhance collaborations, the system responds to a trigger event to determine the nature of any collaboration which should be assembled in response to the trigger, and determines the requirements needed to respond to the event. These requirements set out the type of resources (personnel, equipment, information systems, etc) that are needed. The system then identifies a subset of specific resources based on a criteria, and invites the specified resources to collaborate to respond to the event. The criteria can include the availability of the specific resource. According to an embodiment, the system evaluates responses from the invited resources and then convenes the collaboration, for example by establishing one or more communication sessions. According to an embodiment, the system evaluates responses from the invited resources to ensure that the requirements are satisfied, and if not, determines other resources to invite.

Method and system for enhancing collaboration

According to a commercial method of the present invention, a merchant forwards transaction data to a consumer. If the consumer accepts the transaction, a payment command is forwarded to a service provider. The service provider selectively applies authentication before approving payment. Once payment is approved, the service provider forwards a payment instruction, including consumer account information, to a payment service. The payment service forwards payment to the merchant and a payment confirmation is returned to the service provider and, through the service provider, to the consumer. The service provider stores information about each transaction performed by each subscriber. Consumer identity is protected because it is only exchanged between the service provider and the payment service, and is not made available to the merchant. In addition, the storage of the transaction information by various devices facilitates the return process and adds marketing capability to the service provider.

A computer-implemented method for handling a microflow includes receiving a workflow request that includes a task associated with the workflow and a contact address associated with the task, performing an operation associated with receiving the workflow request that includes at least one of opening a communication session with the contact address and sending a response to the workflow request to the contact address. The method further includes storing the task, prioritizing the task, and performing an operation associated with execution of the workflow including at least one of opening a communications session with the contact address, sending a status associated with performance of the task, and sending a completion status of the task.

Consumer information in electronic transactions is protected by avoiding disclosure of the consumer information to a merchant. In order to execute a transaction, the merchant forwards transaction data, i.e., an offer, to the consumer. In order to accept the offer, the consumer forwards a payment command to a service provider. The service provider selectively applies authentication before approving payment. Once payment is approved, the service provider forwards a payment instruction, including consumer account information, to a payment service. The payment service forwards payment to the merchant. Consequently, consumer information is not provided to the merchant. Further, the consumer need not necessarily provide any communication directly to the merchant. Payment confirmation may be returned to the service provider and, through the service provider, to the consumer. The service provider may also store information about each transaction performed by each subscriber. Storage of the transaction information by various devices facilitates the return process and adds marketing capability to the service provider.

Enabling improved protection of consumer information in electronic transactions

An architecture that enables distributed storage capacity to be shared as though accesses were being made to a Fiber Channel Switch is described. The distributed capacity may include Fiber Channel devices and thus a method for addressing Fiber Channel devices coupled in a resilient ring has been provided. Expected Fiber Channel behavior and reliability are attained in the architecture of this invention through the application of bandwidth provisioning and extended reach mechanisms at each node in the ring. The bandwidth provisioning mechanisms ensure that access is provided to the communication links of the ring for each node according to a defined bandwidth distribution. The extended reach mechanisms of the invention ensure that the standard Fiber Channel packet delivery assumptions are satisfied. The solution exploits native ring characteristics to deliver customer separation and management of the resulting storage network. Forwarding Error Correction techniques can be used to ensure that a Bit Error Rate of the Fiber Channel communications on the ring is comparable to a Bit Error Rate of a typical Fiber Channel network.

A mobile ad hoc network is formed by selecting at least one client to function as a Virtual Mobile Server ('VMS') on behalf of other clients: Those other clients subsequently communicate with a cell station via the VMS on an UWB format. Other clients may function as Virtual Distributed Mobile Servers ('VDMSs') which relay communications between the VMS and clients which are out of direct communication range of the VMS. Further, multiple VMSs may be implemented for a single ad hoc network in order to bundle bandwidth. Clients may also extend the communication range of the VMS to a new cell station in order to enable earlier initiation of cell station handoff.

A method for preventing information losses due to network node failure is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of operatively connecting at least one backup node to a primary node, followed by synchronizing the at least one backup node and the primary node. Next, the method comprises receiving, from a first endpoint, ingress traffic in the primary node and replicating the ingress traffic to the at least one backup node. Next, the method outputs, from the primary mode, primary egress traffic and outputs, from the at least one backup node, backup egress traffic. The method then determines if the primary node has failed. Then, the method transmits, to a second endpoint, the primary egress traffic if it is determined that the primary node has not failed, and transmits, to the second endpoint, the backup egress traffic from a selected one of the at least one backup nodes if it is determined that the primary node has failed.
