A composite material includes a cementitious composition and a plurality of fibers disposed in the cementitious composition. Each of the plurality of fibers includes a plastic component. Each of the plurality of fibers further includes a surfactant and a metal oxide, each independently heterogeneously dispersed throughout each of the plurality of fibers. A method of forming the composite material includes the step of combining the plastic component, the surfactant, and the metal oxide, to form the plurality of fibers. The method further includes the step of disposing the plurality of fibers in the cementitious composition to form the composite material.

Provided is a treated platy substrate, a method of making it, and methods of using it. The substrate can be synthetic mica, optionally comprising metal-oxide layers. The treated platy substrate is useful in cosmetic compositions.

This invention is directed to a method of modifying the refractive index of multilayer thin films structure comprising high refractive and low refractive index layers, where the high refractive and low refractive index layers are of the same material, the method comprises a) depositing a first layer of film of a refractive index on a substrate; b) depositing a second layer of film having a different refractive index onto the first layer of film; and c) depositing a third layer of film having a different refractive index from the second layer of film onto the second layer of film, and compositions thereof. In certain embodiments, this multilayer thin film structure of this invention is directed to decorative applications.

Method of making thin film structures and compositions thereof

This disclosure is directed to a black effect pigment and a method of forming said pigment. The pigment comprises a platy substrate coated with SnOand/or SnOhydrates and FeOwith an optional coating of metal oxides such as SiO, TiO, ZrOand ZnO. The deposition of the SnOand/or SnOhydrates onto the substrate improves the adhesion and prepares the substrate surface for deposition of the iron oxides onto the platy surface, especially mica surfaces. While the pigment may be used in such applications as coating, powder coating, printing ink, plastic, ceramic material, glass, cosmetic formulation, laser marking pigment, pigment composition or dry preparation, the pigment is especially suitable for cosmetic applications.

Black effect pigment

A laminar pigment which has hydrolyzed silane coupling agent treated surface is used as a pigment for a powder coating composition. By combining the pigment with a powdery film-forming polymer, a film-forming composition, which can be applied by electrostatic coating is produced. With the addition of leveling agent to the silane treated products, the spray properties of effect pigments are improved. The products of this invention are useful in all types of automotive and industrial paint applications.
