A micro-calorimeter apparatus comprises a thermostated housing (); a pair of essentially flat heat sinks (), suspended in the housing () and thermally floating relative to the environment inside the housing (). The heat sinks () are arranged with their surfaces facing each other. A pair of Peltier elements () are thermally attached to the heat sinks (), one element () on each heat sink (), on the facing surfaces, forming a gap between them for the accommodation of a generally flat biosensor unit ().

Micro-calorimeter apparatus

In general terms the biosensor apparatus according to the invention comprises a housing (), a pair of heat sinks () and a pair of heat reflectors () thermally floating relative to the heat sinks, and a pair of Peltier elements () attached to and in thermal contact with the heat sinks (), one element () on each heat sink (). The housing is made of an insulating material, and the heat sinks () are made of a material with thermal properties large enough to absorb the heat flow with only a very slight, negligible disturbance in its temperature, to render their envelope surface having a high heat emissivity. The heat reflectors () are made of a material having a very low emissivity and have a generally flat and thin disc shaped structure and acts primarily as radiation shields.

Biosensor apparatus for detection of thermal flow

The invention relates to a system for continuous monitoring of analytes in a biological fluid, the system having increased life by virtue of inherent regeneration of sensors employed. An embodiment of the invention includes a biosensor, a sampling device for providing a sample of the biological fluid, device(s) for passing a flow of a background fluid through the flow passage at selectable flow rates, device(s) for injecting the sample into the flow of background fluid, and device(s) for increasing the flow rate of the combined flow. An embodiment of the invention provides device(s) for achieving a washing action at the signal generating portion.

Regeneration of biosensors

The invention comprises a method of regenerating a biosensor. It involves passing a background flow of fluid without reactive components through the flow passage. At a selected point in time a sample aliquot is injected into said background flow. At a point in time when a signal from said sensor is obtained the flow rate of the background fluid is increased. The invention also comprises a system for continuous monitoring of analytes in a biological fluid, the system having increased life by virtue of inherent regeneration of sensors employed. It comprises a biosensor ( ), a sampling device ( ) for providing a sample of said biological fluid, and means ( ) for passing a flow of a background fluid through said flow passage at selectable flow rates, means ( ) for injecting said sample into said flow of background fluid, and means ( ) for increasing the flow rate of said combined flow.
